Rosacea

Hello, not sure if this is the right topic but I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations to deal with rosacea. I get it every now and then and it seems to coincide with periods of stress and hormones. It is really getting me down. Any recommendations for treatment?

Following as I think i suffer from it too (undiagnosed) but it too gets me down Sad
Any ideas on creams etc.?
Feel for you OP 😔

I have rosacea.

My dad and aunt and my grandad all had it so I have a vision of my future and it’s red!

However I had a course of IPL before lockdown which actually really helped. Both my cheeks are almost free of it. It’s just my chin that remains stubbornly red. After lockdown I will try again with a couple more sessions.

I’ve tried various other options including all the creams and this has been the only thing to make a visible and lasting difference.

PandaHorse · 28/04/2020 21:35

Thanks. It really gets me down as my skin can be fine and then comes out in red blemishes all over my cheeks, not spots exactly just blemishes which make me really self conscious

@Sadie789 what does it cost on average?

I had a course of 4 sessions for £200. It was £80 for a single session.

Worth it for the result.

Have previously paid a lot more for types of electrolysis and such things for very little improvement.

Sadie789 · 28/04/2020 21:50

It was a particular type of IPL so you would need to seek out someone who does IPL for rosacea.

lookingforsomehelp · 28/04/2020 21:53

Are there any particular creams that are good in the meantime or help at all that you have tried please? I keep reading reviews of all creams and just don't know what to bother with!

Sadie789 · 28/04/2020 21:55

Tried them all, none have worked.

I might have rosacea, pharmacist says so. I'll go to doc when lockdown has lifted. Pharmacist recommended Kelkin tea tree clear skin to soothe it. It doesnt clear it, but it does seem to keep it at bay. It's liquid in a little bottle, with a roller application that you can apply before moisturiser and under foundation.

Facial sun cream. Every day. Even winter. I use Riemann P20.

I have rosacea. I have been on oxytetracycline from the GP which cleared up the spots and then use azelaic acid from the ordinary at night and REN evercalm moisturiser which have helped I think.

LavenderLilacTree · 28/04/2020 22:04

You can't get rid of it I believe. You need to use the treatments forever to keep it under control (I am taking about topical treatments).

Nomorewineever · 28/04/2020 22:11

I posted not long ago about this.

La Roche posay rosalaic has helped me enormously. The serum is good. I have it at my rose creases and this helps a lot.

PandaHorse · 28/04/2020 22:45

Thanks, I've been trying La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo and one day it looks better, the next day worse. I'll look into other treatments. Does stress make a big difference for anyone else?

Nomorewineever · 28/04/2020 23:21

I thought effaclar was for spotty skin and rosalaic for rosacea? I could be wrong

User721 · 28/04/2020 23:28

I bought soolantra from an online pharmacist. It cleared the spots up and reduced redness quite a lot.

JingleCatJingle · 28/04/2020 23:30

Yup, get soolantra.
Keen to know more about the IPL. While soolantra cleared up the fun spots I still have some redness and would like it gone please!

Peonyonpoint · 28/04/2020 23:35

soolantra!

Crickets · 28/04/2020 23:53

Soolantra. Twice a day for three weeks and my skin is completely clear three years later. I had tones of white heads and very sore skin and had tried everything.

It reduces redness a bit but my face is still a little red. If any one has any suggestions, I'd be delighted to hear them. I'm absolutely made up with my skin now.

Nicedayforawedding · 29/04/2020 00:02

I suffer with rosacea. So far I’ve tried Neal’s Yard, Tropic, No 7 and other stuff. I’ve had lymecycline from the GP which helped but made me feel crap and tired. I had metrogel which calmed it somewhat.

I’m hoping to pick up tips! Is Soolantra available over the counter?

Figgygal · 29/04/2020 06:57

I have it and have done the last 3-4 years the Dr was surprised as was mid 30’s at the time

I Dont wear make up (which is easy as never did anyway really), simple moisturiser and dermalex rosacea cream which seems to keep it under control.
I find orange juice a massive trigger so avoid that now

LeaveItBarbara · 29/04/2020 07:09

Soolantra, on prescription from the GP, cleared mine very quickly but it can flare up with stress or hormones/illness. I always have some, and a tube of azalaeic acid cream, in the cupboard.

Gentle skincare is best - Cerave works for me - and annoyingly cutting right back on sugar also has a major beneficial effect.

zippyswife · 29/04/2020 07:40

I was diagnosed 15 years ago. It was really bad at the time- sore and I was too embarrassed to leave the house. I used rosex (prescribed from gp) and switched to Avene products. It cleared it within weeks. I still keep a tube of rosex for flare ups but fortunately it’s been under control since. I don’t use water on my face, air conditioning and heating in the car irritate it. I steer clear of things that trigger a reaction. I’ve read a lot of good stuff about soolantra on here too. Good luck. It’s horrible but there’s ways to treat it.
