Indoor and general footwear for plantar fasciitis

Blahblahblahyadayadayada · 26/04/2020 19:57

Posting for traffic!
I’m prone to this in one foot it’s not so much painful as annoying and once my foot is affected, it makes my leg feel weird. I’d appreciate suggestions for suitable footwear. I’ve worn fit flops indoors in the past but they only work for a time and then the fit flop loosens and isn’t so supportive.
I don’t like the idea of wearing shoes indoors but have read that shoes are better than slippers. Shoes just seem inconvenient if you want to sit on the floor or just put your feet up on the sofa, plus you have to touch them to remove them etc etc
Then it’s the time of year where socks and shoes indoors just seems uncomfortable.
However, I’d be grateful for any suggestions for suitable indoor shoes/slippers with arch support. I have relatively flat arches and am prone to pronating.

They are hideously ugly but crocs make a shoe especially for plantar fasciitis. Mil wears them in the house.

Blahblahblahyadayadayada · 26/04/2020 20:14

Thanks MoltonSilver. I have tried looking for Crocs shoes but can’t find any online.
Is there a name for the shoe?
Don’t mind ugly at home. Thanks.

birkenstocks

cissyandbessy · 26/04/2020 20:19

Also Molton if you know which kind of crocs I'd like to know too? Have just ordered Kybun shoes which are ridiculous ££££ but only thing that has helped me. You can do a two week trial to test them as no UK shops. Agree that Fitflops initial cushiony effect wears off after a while. It's a massive pain, stretching exercises help as did a leg brace but hard to sleep with.

Blahblahblahyadayadayada · 26/04/2020 20:26

Aren’t Birkenstocks too flat?
Which type would be good- so many available!

Fitflops are usually recommended.

thismeansnothing · 26/04/2020 20:45

Hoka trainers are supposedly fab for PF issues.

FredaFrogspawn · 26/04/2020 20:48

Clarks un-loop loafers were the only shoes to sort my feet. And special flip flops which were about £25 but amazing.

Petrarkanian · 26/04/2020 20:49

Sketcher go walk trainers are the only shoe I've found that helped PF.

I seem to be having a break from it at the moment.

Petrarkanian · 26/04/2020 20:50

Though they have no style or beauty.

HereBeFuckery · 26/04/2020 21:06

Spenco slippers. Ugly MFers but they mean I can walk.
Also, how do you get PF without pain? I want that kind!

Hazelnutlatteplease · 26/04/2020 21:10

Crocs are on the crocs webstore and Amazon
www.crocs.co.uk/c/selected-styles/m8?prefn1=gender&prefv1=Men

Crocs are perfect for your needs if you dont mind ugly

LellyMcKelly · 26/04/2020 21:27

FlyFlot worked for me. Ugly as sin, but incredibly comfortable

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 26/04/2020 21:28

fit flops absolutely killed my knees.

Love birkenstocks

Hellvelyn · 26/04/2020 21:35

I wear the traditional, ugly crocs in the house. Slippers, flip flops and bare feet all make things worse. Birkenstocks are great. They aren't quite flat and are so form and supportive. I also wear inserts for PF (available from Amazon) in trainers and boots. Didn't find Skechers helpful at all. Far too spongy for me. You are doomed to a future of frumpy shoes I'm afraid!

MiniChoc · 26/04/2020 21:37

I HAVE to wear crocs in the house.

Elouera · 26/04/2020 21:46

I've been looking into the same, and put a post on here yesterday about fitflops for wide feet.

I was advised to go to one of many running shoe shops which do a gait assessment for free. you run or walk quickly on a treadmill and they check whether your ankles roll in our out. Mine roll in, so they advised shoes accordingly which support them and reduce the roll.

I still have dreadful PF, but you may find that having the right supportive shoe might help.

Blahblahblahyadayadayada · 26/04/2020 21:47

HereBe it’s more the tightness that preceded the pain.
I seem to be between sizes in Sketchers.
Insoles are helpful but then they can be tricky with footwear that can’t accommodate them. I had custom orthotics years ago and they were great.
Really surprised to see people suggesting Crocs. I can’t see the Senco ones on amazon at the moment but I’ll keep looking.
Don’t care about looks if my foot stops hurting!

I wear an old pair of FitFlop mules with a slight wedge sole in the house.
Not cheap but FItFlops also do slippers as do Vionics (another good shoe if you are plagued by PF). Both have sales on with good discounts but still pricey.
In my experience Sketchers are too soft and lack support. I used to wear Birkenstocks and they do have good arch support but i find them too flat now.
Exercises such as a variety of calf stretches and rolling a can or a ball along the floor whilst your sitting can help.

OatcakeCravings · 26/04/2020 22:13

I had the most god awful PF that lasted about a year a couple of years ago. I found Skechers Go Walks the only shoe I could tolerate. They were the ugliest shoe I’ve ever worn but I was in too much pain to care!

Mosaic123 · 26/04/2020 22:23

Some Vionics have a little bit, of style about them.

waltzingparrot · 26/04/2020 22:32

Everhealth do a range of orthotic sandals and flip flops. They're good for indoors.

MiniMum97 · 27/04/2020 01:46

Oofos are my saviour

BruceAndNosh · 27/04/2020 01:58

I wear nothing but Strive. Their shoe range is a bit limited but you can put orthotics in normal shoes.
But their sandal range is amazing.
They take some getting used to as they have a very pronounced arch but 7ncrease wear a over about three days until you adapt.
I even have Strive slippers for round the house.

Salene · 27/04/2020 02:14

Oofos which are running recovery flip flops and shoes are absolutely amazing

And also for PF

100 percent get a pair.
