Hi all, I'm in the mood for a bit of a splurge on hair products. What are your favourite more expensive products for dry, coarse, curly hair, mix of type 3a and 3b if that helps. Interested in shampoo, curl cream/ hair butter and a gel. Online retailers of course. Thanks!

Bodyshop shea butter hair mask
Cantu hair mask

I have the same hair & a bathroom full of products.
I've just ordered elasticizer extreme & am hoping for miracles. If you have olive oil at home you could try that for an intensive treatment.
Curly hair is so individual, what works for one person may not work for you.
I find the curlier I style my hair the better it looks but I hate the shrinkage.

I like Cantu products, you can get them pretty much anywhere, they smell lovely and the leave in conditioner is divine. Keracare is also a really good brand you can get it on Look Fantastic. Hair oils I like to use are Jojoba oil, Jamaican Black Castor oil and Sweet Almond oil. I rub some into my scalp and on the ends to keep it moisturised.

This is a fantastic leave in and detangler too www.amazon.co.uk/Nature-Morocco-Strength-Leave-Conditioner/dp/B004YRUDIY/ref=pd_sbs_194_13?psc=1&pf_rd_p=2773aa8e-42c5-4dbe-bda8-5cdf226aa078&_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_wg=xvofv&pf_rd_r=46PX1919AQC7T0955PXB&pd_rd_i=B004YRUDIY&pd_rd_w=LreCS&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&refRID=46PX1919AQC7T0955PXB&pd_rd_r=8ba123e7-8a73-41d3-abcd-3a36f03aa769 Link is for Amazn but you can normally buy from Superdrung and Boots so you should be able to get from usual online beauty outlets too. Smells amazing and made a really difference to my hair

Micro fibre towel and leave in conditioner, leave it to dry naturally and don’t comb it. My pre kid hair budget consisted of aveda hair products which were like a spa treatment every day....those were the days.

Redken allsoft conditioner. Don't use shampoo. Wash your hair with the conditioner (Google it) and only use shampoo every weeks. Give it 2 months of this treatment. Lush.

Try to work out if your dry coarse hair is high or low porosity. If products tend to build up and feel sticky quickly you might have low porosity and not get on with oils and curl creams. In that case, try products with humectants such as glycerine and honey and let them penetrate with heat if possible (warm hair turban). If you do use oils. put them on overnight and wash off. I wasted a lot of money buying products that suited other people with coarse dry hair!

PS A detox shampoo can help occasionally. Cowashing (with just conditioner) may not work well for low porosity hair as it just builds up.

'Try to work out if your dry coarse hair is high or low porosity'

My hair tends to be very 'thirsty', absorbs products and never really feels sticky or full of product even though I use loads, so I'm guessing it's high porosity

Boucleme is fab, especially their curl cream and gel. Also got myself a dock and bay hair wrap which is sooo worth it, so much less frizz compared to towel drying. Shea moisture conditioner also. I sometimes use Cantu but I find their products weigh my hair down so much more

Devlesko · 26/04/2020 00:15

Cantu is good but if your hair is finer it will weigh it down, it's too heavy for me, but lovely. I like th curl cream but it's not quite enough on it's own.
I'm still searching, too. I know a lot recommend boots own curl cream, but it makes mine really stiff.
I've tried everything OP, I know what it's like. Some suggestions here sound worth trying.

Lottapianos · 26/04/2020 14:36

Its never ending, isnt it?! We've probably all tried a million products, and at least half of them recommended by others who swore they were the holy grail. We're all so different

Thanks for recommendations. My hair loves Cantu, and I use it often, but I find my hair gets sick of products, they stop working as well as they used to, and I have to change them every 6-8 weeks

I'd definitely recommend Philip Kingsley Elasticizer extreme. I used the normal one on my highlighted hair and it makes it so soft.

He also does a daily defence leave in conditioner spray that has been a game changer for me, best product I've ever used. His range is pricey but worth every penny

slinkysaluki · 26/04/2020 22:02

My hair is very thick and coarse and tends to be dry. I ordered a Bumble & Bumble Hairdressers invisible oil kit which is a travel size shampoo, conditioner and heat spray. Left hair soft and manageable right down to ends. It was £12 from Look Fantastic
