Fitflops for plantar fasciitus- which styles?

Are certain styles better than others? I had wide feet, think hobbit wide! I read that I should a size larger to compensate for the width. Any advice/experience appreciated.

I personally wouldn't advise a flip flop until your symptoms have gone as with a flip flop you clench your toes to keep them on and this tightens the plantar and therefore prolonging the recovery stage xx

I don't think they're great for broad feet. I've got the fitflop sandals and slippers but have small, not particularly wide feet and I can't see how they would fit. Have you tried any on that you could judge the width by?

I love my fitflops. Like walking on a cloud. My flat feet love them

Fitflops or Birkenstock’s, both helped when I had plantar fasciitis.

CocteauTwin · 24/04/2020 18:41

I wear a lot of FitFlops and they definitely help my Plantar Fasciitis. The best ones however are the trainers, the ones with the Anatomicush sole (think that's right!). The Rally trainers have this and I can walk for miles when I wear mine with no pain whatsoever.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 24/04/2020 18:46

I personally found Birkenstock's better.

Are you doing lots of exercises for the PF? They've made such a difference to mine.

Thanks everyone, some good points there. I was thinking of wearing the fitflops just indoors.

I wear a brace on the opposite leg due to arthritis, and suspect the issue is referred from that. It started 6mths ago. I saw a podiatrist, GP, gait assessment and got new trainers which support my feet so they don't roll in anymore. I also do stretches and exercises, but its not easing- in fact seems worse, especially after a long walk. Maybe I need an ultrasound to check its actually PF?

Look at the width styles on the Fitflop website - there are 4 different types I think.

Tbh it is badly done as each shoe is one of those 4 and you have to check specifically, they don't offer each shoe in each width option. Also the names don't make sense give they are progressively wider, they just seem like standalone styles.

I thought I had very wide feet, but the wider shoe was unwearable for me.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 24/04/2020 20:35

It does seem to take a while to ease off. I'm fine actually on the long walk but then if I sat down for a while afterwards, when I got up I was literally hobbling around.

Deep tissue massage also helps, do it the moment you wake up all across the sole of your foot, you will feel the scar tissue of the muscle crunching under you fingers, you need to work out all that to help the muscle heal.

Elouera · 25/04/2020 09:17

@HollyBollyBooBoo- mine is also fine whilst walking, and I can go for miles, its in the afternoon once I'm back at home and stopped, or the following morning that I hobble about!

I also bought a sock which pulls the toe up at night in bed- it didn't help and was the most uncomfortable thing ever!

The OP was asking about Fitflops not flipflops.

Fitfops come in lots of different styles, including boots, they don't just come as flipflops.
Fitflops are said to help with plantar fasciitis.

Lordfrontpaw · 25/04/2020 09:58

I went to a podiatrist once (back problems) and he almost choked when he saw my converse. He said that you should only wear rigid soles with laces to hold the foot. Ok so slipons did really hurt my back but I still wear closed toe fitflop sandals.

LadyEloise · 25/04/2020 10:54

Brooks Runners ( they do walking shoes too) are supposed to be really good for people with foot problems.

PerditaDreamsofFairHorses · 25/04/2020 13:43

I suffered with this for almost a year and went to podologist for made-to-measure insoles and to physio, but was only fixed when I got the Fitflop Lulus for home and some Oxfords for work and a foam slant board for stretching my calves (stretching calves on a step made mine worse) - better within two weeks, but I did have to wear nothing but Fitflops for a few months and still wear them regularly five years later or I start to feel it.
