Facial oil

I started using facial oil a year ago, and though I love the texture and it's gorgeous to put on, I find it's making me look older.

At first, even DH told me my skin had that glow. But I honestly don't feel it is doing anything for me, in fact, it's making me look older and my skin duller.

Can anyone tell me their experience with oils? I use Clarins and Darphin.

Order of products:
Wash
Toner
Serum
Oil
Moisturiser

Would you consider a switch from oil to a retinol from the ordinary at night and vitamin c serum in the morning instead?.

You’d need to wear a proper sunblock but their cheap as chips.

I use this which has won Beauty Awards this year.

I love it...wouldn't use anything else now.

@Fluffycloudland77

Is face oil bad? I'm starting to wonder if the face oil trend is not all that great, to be honest.

I look 65, but it's happened since using face oil.

@wheresmymojo

Do you use face oil?

I don’t think it’s bad but you don’t think it’s suiting you & there’s no point using anything if it doesn’t work.

The things that have active ingredients like retinol, vitamin c & acids have been proven to work but it’s not very exciting editorial in the glossy magazines is it? “Retinol still works, carry on” no ones going to buy a magazine for that headline are they.

I tried an oil once, it just made my face hairy.

I'm 32, I use grape seed oil as a make up remover / cleanser with a hot cloth then retinol one squalane

You should apply oil last after moisturiser. Oil seals in moisture so your moisturiser won’t penetrate your skin if you’re putting it on top of oil

I started doing an oil cleansing routine after it was recommended on a thread here. Did not agree with my skin. My forehead came out in little lumps, my skin got more spots. Took me a long time to get it back to normal.

I use facial oil on top of my moisturiser if my skin is still feeling a bit tight/dry after my morning routine. Mainly in the winter but sometimes through the summer too. I’m 44 and think it helps?! Feels protecting from the cold too.

TheCanterburyWhales · 26/04/2020 13:27

It needs to go over your moisturiser if your moisturiser is oil based and under if not.
Which are you using?
Rosehip for example is good for younger skin showing the first signs of ageing. It's not going to do diddley on mature skin.

What do you mean by wash? Facial wash or hot cloth cleanse? Do you take your makeup off with anything before washing? What toner? Acid? What moisturiser? What serum? Do you use a separate SPF?

All of the above (esp SPF, toner and serums) will have far more of an anti ageing effect than ant facial oil which will ultimately blur fine lines by adding moisture.

All of

You’re probably using too many products.
I am 44 and tried serum from boots no7 but it made me spotty.
I went back to just a moisturiser and the spots went too.
