Style makeover/ capsule wardrobe

I'd love to spend a bit of time during lockdown and my maternity leave putting together a wardrobe that I actually like and getting rid of some of the clothes I don't wear. To start off with I have some baby weight to shift, so it'll be a slow process.

Problem is I don't know where to start. I have a few items that I love ( brown DM boots, all white Reebok trainers) which I don't want to get rid of but otherwise that's it.

I usually just go to jeans and a t-shirt, bit I'd like a bit of variety. I guess I want comfy clothes that are going to last, that I can combine lots and that are maybe a little bit 'edgy'.

Any suggestions of where I can look for ideas, or lists of what should be in an ultimate capsule wardrobe?

I'm a 16 at the moment probably- aim is a 12....

Join Styled by Susie Facebook group - loads of ideas posted there, plus you can buy pretty low-cost style/shape/colour analysis that really helps streamline your wardrobe.
The focus is on enjoying your clothes at the size you are, so you can start that straight away - even if you still want to lose weight Smile

Use less on Instagram/YouTube puts together capsule wardrobes which I always like, watching one of her videos will lead to other similar suggested videos.

There was a previous thread about using a spreadsheet to track all the things you need for your actual lifestyle. Not impulse buys for things you like but rarely wear. Most people agreed that they rarely invested in outerwear and therefore felt they never looked together. On the basis of that, I bought a navy 'car coat' from Uniqglo (others went for trenches, quality boots, brogues, leather totes etc).
Once you have your outerwear sorted, it's easier to then buy the right jeans and a top. It was about spreading the cost and budgeting for the best you can afford. Cashmere over acrylic, cotton, neutral colours (denim, tan & khaki are considered neutrals). Massimo Dutti, Cos, H&M, Uniqglo, All Saints, Arket can be good places to start. Mood boards and careful consideration rather than impulse.

Thanks Diana I'll try to track that down. It's exactly my problem - I but cheap then don't wear.

@DianaT1969 please can you give some pointers for the thread? I can't find in anywhere!

The lady with the spread sheet, she was Australian. Great thread I’ll try and find it

The best book i ever read that has helped me immensely is "The curated Closet" by Anushka Rees!
So many useful exercises to get to the root of your style and buy clothes you actually love and will wear.
It's great for reading from beginning to end as a programme for a style and wardrobe overhaul or dipping in and out. Honestly, this book changed my life and wardrobe!

Getting your colours done will probably help a lot. I found it well worth the money as it helped me identify the best of what I had, and the neutrals needed to fill the gaps. Lots on Pinterest about capsule wardrobes.
