What would get rid of dark leg hairs (pics included)

I honestly can't believe I'm posting this and pray my name change works 🙈

Pic one is two days growth (mon am to Tuesday pm) and pic two is after shaving but still having all these black dots showing 😕

I only ever shave but am wondering if waxing would solve this problem by pulling them out at the root? I'm so pale skinned I've no idea why I have wire wool for leg hair but I'm so self conscious of wearing anything that shows my ankles off even after just shaving.

Do you exfoliate before shaving? If not give it a try and you might get better results and closer shave

Winederlust · 21/04/2020 19:54

I have (had) a similar problem - pale skin, dark thick hair that grows quickly. Waxing definitely makes a difference and if you do it often and long enough the hair will eventually start to grow back finer and more slowly.
Also treated myself to the Philips lumea late last year and that's made so much difference! They're not cheap but probably the equivalent to a year's worth of waxing so worth it in the long run.

  1. Use a body brush to dry brush your legs
  2. Exfoliate with a sugar scrub
  3. Shave using a new men's razor blade (I use Mac3 Fusion blades as women's ones like Venus etc. Just don't cut it)
  4. Moisturise well

It won't give you instant results but if you follow this routine each time you shave then you'll notice a difference. Even dry brushing and moisturising everyday improves the appearance of your skin loads.

Notredamn · 21/04/2020 19:59

An epilator will pull them all out at the root. Downsides= it hurts exactly like you'd imagine until you get used to it, and you have to exfoliate really well to prevent in growing hairs regrowth.

Lasering. Obviously won't be happening during lockdown, but in the longer run.

perniciousdot · 21/04/2020 20:13

DD's legs look like that bit only when she fake tans. Do you tan?

Popsicle30 · 21/04/2020 20:16

I second the Phillips Lumea. I’ve tried waxing previously but I get too many ingrown hairs from it. If you have dark hairs and pale skin then the Phillips Lumea should work a charm. If you follow their guide it works. I hardly need to shave my legs now and top up with the lumea when required. It isn’t cheap but worth it in the long run

FromZeroToHero · 21/04/2020 20:19

You have a perfect skin for IPL laser hair removal! Like me. I have bought IPL laser last winter and had this so called treatmet through out 4 or 5 months and now my skin is like a baby's Im not joking. The hair never grows back and even if they di they are so light and soft no one can notice them anymore. I would definitely recommend you getting one. It doesnt work on tanned skin so its best to do during winter months and then enjoy your hairless legs in summer

Mustbethewine · 21/04/2020 20:31

My legs are the same OP! Its because my hairs are super dark.

ZoeandChandon · 21/04/2020 20:34

I had ipl a couple of winters ago, now have smooth legs and no plucked chicken looking skin any more! Very happy with the treatment (6 sessions)

Thighdentitycrisis · 21/04/2020 20:39

You need a Phillips Lumea,
I had hairs like yours and the Lumea really helps

TheWordmeister · 21/04/2020 20:46

Buy a Lumea! I am pale with dark hair - or I was. I have barely any leg hair now.

LHReturns · 21/04/2020 21:39

Save for proper clinic Soprano laser. Pale skin and dark hair is best candidate. 8 sessions and you will be done - then twice yearly maintenance sessions. I used to shave in morning and have prickly 5 o clock shadow....I feel your pain! Soprano at a really good place means I never have to think about it (or under arms or bikini) ever again. That was 8 years ago.

Elouera · 21/04/2020 21:45

I too was going to say that you have the perfect combo for great results with IPL. Yes, they are expensive, but its eventually permanent hair removal, so when you take into account of many more years of razors or wax etc, its actually cheap. Also, the thicker hairs absorb more light, so fall out quicker than really thin hair.

I reviewed IPL machines for weeks. There was a great website which compared the various brands. I ended up with a braun silk expert, but that was a few years ago and there is an upgrade of my model now. I can do it in the privacy of my home, pain free and no razor cuts or wax burns.

needsahouseboy · 22/04/2020 07:23

My legs were super hairy and waxing used to just cause I grown hairs all over. I paid for laser treatment and the difference is amazing. Well worth it.

scousema34 · 25/04/2020 20:27

Thanks everyone just getting back to this just now. Looks like the lumea is the winner then. Is there any difference between the models? Is it worth paying more for the more expensive one?

My legs were like that, now virtually hairless, thanks to a course of laser treatments and the lumea.
