If your DH has a shaved head, come this way!

DP has given himself a lockdown haircut which is basically a razor to the head!

He has dry, sensitive skin and it's full of dry patches and I just know he's going to get sore bumps!

He's balding in places anyway so he was always going to eventually have to do this but we didn't think so soon.

What post shaving creams/oils are best to use after he shaves his head?

Did he use clippers without a guard, or an actual razor?
My husband shaves his head with clippers, he does it every week or 10 days. I don't think he gets dry or sore skin though, as he's just cutting it very very short rather than shaving it all off.

An actual razor... not clippers. He's going to have to shave it every 2/3 days to stop it becoming stubbly so he needs a decent oil/balm.

My partner just uses clippers and no issues at all either

I think if he has dry sensitive skin repeatedly shaving might not be best. Clippers for a number 1 or 2 might be better.

DH just pinches some of my facial moisturizer if he’s got a a bit dry on top.

He needs to mix some coconut oil and sugar together and give his head a gentle scrub with it every day in the shower.

My ex used a Pitbull Skull Shaver, like an electric shaver shaped especially for heads. Less risky than hand razor.
E45 moisturiser but then he had sensitive skin.

Squidsister · 20/04/2020 20:35

DH uses clippers as well. He does it himself and then I check the back to make sure he hasn’t missed any patches.
He then puts it on a higher setting and does his eyebrows!
No problems with dry skin so far but he isn’t shaving it completely bald - just very very short so the bald bit isn’t so noticeable.

Clippers all the way here, would have thought that a razor isn't ideal.

If he's already got dry patches and he doesn't have Psoriasis/Eczema, he's going to need to let his head heal for a couple of days, as he's pretty much given himself razor burn on the scalp (which is a lot more delicate then the chin or neck).

After that, something like E45 lotion is a good start to letting the skin heal. A thick ointment would be too much at first, although it could be used as a replacement for soap - massage in until it melts, then wipe off with a flannel wrung out in very hot water. It'll help lift off the flakes of dry skin without hurting as well.

Clippers are definitely gentler on the skin, both in doing it and in the feeling of regrowth.

DP generally lets his grow to about a quarter of an inch, clippers it back and then will have a bath and shave it the following day if he wants the full on smoothness.

Oh, and shaving every couple of days is extremely bad for his skin. Just don't do it.

He'll also need a selection of hats and an absolute fuckton of sunblock.

DS has eczema and seborrheic dermatitis on his scalp, he favours a skin fade style which irritates his skin awfully. The GP prescribed Nizoral shampoo for him to use on what's left of his hair, but he found that Palmers Cocoa Butter moisturiser works best on the rest of his head and face for the eczema. It might be worth a try, but think a clipper cut rather than razor would be less damaging in future for your DH.

MayDayFightsBack · 20/04/2020 21:27

My DH uses a Pitbull electric shaver specifically for shaving the head. If he uses a hand razor his head gets a really greasy head. The Pitbull is much better.

Greenvalleymama · 20/04/2020 21:45

I would recommend getting clippers and taking the guard off to get as close as possible, it'll be much kinder to his scalp. If it's razor burn a bit of Sudocrem might help, but if he's got sensitive skin it's likely to continue being a problem!

Bluntness100 · 20/04/2020 21:48

My husband also uses the skull shaver, quick easy and not messy. If he’s keeping it shaved he should buy one.

copycopypaste · 20/04/2020 21:50

My dh uses body shop coconut body moisturiser after he shaves. He smells of holidays after he's shaved his head.

He used a razor and shaving gel for sensitive skin also.
