If DS likes Ralph Lauren what other brands would he like?

None of my family know much about clothes. Since starting uni DS has found that he likes a lot of the Ralph Lauren Polo stuff, polo shirts, chinos etc. It fits well and suits him. However he doesn't want to be head to toe in one brand. Does anyone have any suggestions as to similar brands? Any ideas would be gratefully received.

My DH wears Ralph Lauren, he also likes Hugo Boss, Fred Perry and Tommy Hilfiger. All have similar style clothes.

My DH is 26, if age helps for a reference too.

Ginfilledcats · 18/04/2020 23:02

Agree with the brands pp has said. Perhaps jack wills too

whiteroseredrose · 18/04/2020 23:04

Thanks to both of you. I'll have a look.

Tommy Hilfiger definitely.

moomoogalicious · 18/04/2020 23:07

My ds wears tommy, hugo boss, converse, north face, nike, Adidas originals, lacoste

Cheaper and decent quality - Charles Tyrwhitt - not a big name american brand but decent quality & definitely would avoid the top to toe brand look. Also they usually have sales on. Give it a look and see what you think - chinos - polo shirts , oxford type shirts - it isn't a sporty type thing but pretty much classic menswear for most ages

BasiliskStare · 18/04/2020 23:15

That was to @whiteroseredrose & again as per DaisyRose144 - my son is 23 and doesn't look like grandad with various things bought from there Grin

whiteroseredrose · 19/04/2020 08:09

@BasiliskStare that's a really good idea. I think it's a slightly preppy (?) look. I've seen Charles Tyrwhitt brochures. I'll have a look. Thanks.

DH likes Charles Tyrwhitt shirts because they make them with extra long arms. The quality is excellent.

I must admit though that I am wondering how a student can afford to wear designer clothes. DD is a student, and all of her friends tend to dress far more cheaply casually.

BasiliskStare · 19/04/2020 18:35

@Ginfordinner - Charles Tyrwhitt typically have sales on so if you order 4 of something then a good discount and as I have a young adult son & DH they can choose between them and then split them up between them. Any Ralph Lauren stuff Ds has is mostly from DH business trips and from Bloomingdales - much cheaper.

Also @whiteroseredrose - Ds wears Gap Chinos - not terribly expensive and also often on sale - they are good as any other I think without the label.

whiteroseredrose · 19/04/2020 19:03

@ginfordinner (good name!) DS's clothes are mainly from TK Maxx and Bicester village. He has very few clothes (about a weeks' worth!) so will spend a bit more.

@BasiliskStare Gap is a really good idea! I'd completely forgotten about them.

What are thoughts on Crew and Hackett (my DM's suggestion)?

Have a look at Les Deux

LonelyBones · 19/04/2020 23:29

Gant, an American brand. Relaxed preppy, shirts, sweatershirts, polo tops etc

namechangenumber2 · 19/04/2020 23:44

My DS (aged 16) loves Hugo Boss, Emporio Armani and Ralph Lauren. I have to say I'm not overly impressed with the quality of Boss T-shirt's.

Fortunately we don't live a million miles away from Gunwharf Quays or the Swindon shopping outlet Grin

namechangenumber2 · 19/04/2020 23:44

Oh and Fred Perry!

ASOS are also quite good for bits

granadagirl · 19/04/2020 23:45

Jack wills, Lacoste, pretty green, river island,
Jack jones, EA7, Armani, Calvin Klein

DerbyshireGirly · 21/04/2020 08:11

Will add Barbour and maybe Joules as don't think they're on here already.

DrMaryMalone · 21/04/2020 16:58

Fynch-Hatton for jumpers too but might be a bit too country set style!

Marmite27 · 21/04/2020 17:00

Gant if they’re still knocking about. The guys at uni who wore RL also wore Gant —may still have a stolen jumper—

Shimy · 21/04/2020 17:07

Another wondering how a student can afford daily clothing of Ralph Lauren let alone Hugo Boss and North face Shock, there must be some very rich parents here or perhaps students in well paying part-time jobs🤔.

whiteroseredrose · 22/04/2020 08:17

He just doesn't have many clothes @shimy. And he doesn't really drink so doesn't have expensive nights out.

NekoShiro · 22/04/2020 08:26

Designer clothing in tkmaxx is insanely cheap sometimes, I've picked up Jeffrey Campbell shoes for £30 down from £120, so he's probably paid £30-40 or less for each item which isn't that crazy if he's only got a week worth of clothing

doublecheeseburgermediumfries · 22/04/2020 08:38

Jules B is an online retailer who do a lot of gant boss Tommy Hilfiger Fred Perry les deux and always have sales on if you wanna give them a try

whiteroseredrose · 22/04/2020 12:22

Oooh. Will look at Jules B, thanks double cheese.

We really don't buy anything full price. Mainly TK Maxx or Bicester village.
