Hair Dye, grey coverage but avoiding the red setter look

I know this has been done to death. But am looking for a hair dye with great grey covrage for a brunette that does not fade out to a reddish brown. Any tips on what make and colour to go for?
Apart from grey covarage my hair was heavily bleached and Id had been able to have one trip to the hairdressers for my first dye job to go back brown, but it has faded fast. Since then I have put on one box of nice and easy but it did little to cover the greys and has settled quite warm.

I use esalon. You can pick from colour charts online and add photos of your own hair/the colour you want, plus chat with a colourist if you need to.

I haven't tried the esalon colour, but in my pretty extensive experience with hair dye, it all fades with a reddish tinge eventually. Best to keep your hair out of the sun, and use colour protective shampoo and conditioner.

Have a look at Josh Wood colour. I can't tell you much about the grey coverage as I only have a couple myself but you choose your box colour then add a cool tone shade to mix with it and I've found it's really good for getting nice smoky, ashy brown. You can get cool toned gloss in the range as well if you just need to perk your current colour up.

I know exactly what you mean, I have a lot of warm tones in my hair anyway and get it dyed a lovely cool toned brown semi permanent but even that fades to red eventually 😒 best box dye for cool toned brown is casting creme gloss in medium brown

If your hair has been bleached, then it will fade any colour you put over it very quickly.

Personally, I find going for the darknest possible brown best. So the almost black shades. Also, don't go for anything 'chocolate' because they are warmer, with more reddish tones. The best ones for grey coverage I've found are nice and easy age defy and loreal preference.

I've got casting creme gloss medium brown on at the moment. My hair is naturally dark brown but with lots of grey! It's come out very very dark, almost black, but is slowly lightening up now it's been washed a few times. The coverage of the grey has been very good though so I recommend it.

Have a look at the meaning behind the colour numbers (I never realised they related to the shade and cool or warm tones)
The medium brown dye I used was 5.0 so is a neutral brown with no other undertones so you shouldn't get any brass or red tones with it. I'm going to try the light brown 6.00 next time.

I use L’Oréal Iona, mum uses L’Oréal maijerel cool colour, you can find these online or in a trade store, mix 50/50 with the corresponding developer, 35-40 mins for roots, probably 20 for mid lengths and ends but you don’t need to take the colour through all of the hair every time you colour, maybe every third time if you want to refresh it.

Does it make a difference using semi-permanent and permanent? I hate having too dark a colour but also hate warm.
