Pixie hair getting wet

Morning all!
I have recently gone from very long hair to a pixie cut which I love! Shaved on the sides and longer on top. I’m wondering to others with a pixie what do you do with it when it gets wet after swimming please and there’s no hairdryer? I know it’s a daft question but I’ve never had hair so short that I can’t tie back. Do you just throw a hairband in, does it look ok?

This is about the closest to what my hair looks like. Taken from Pinterest.

Arggghhhh this makes me nostalgic for my pixie haircut! I've just spent nearly two years growing it out ....

I never bothered with hairbands etc after swimming - just slicked it back and let it dry on the way home etc. And dealt with it when I got there! I found that my pixie (which was longer on top, like yours) looked quite cute with the long bits poking out from under a beanie hat though Smile

PinkDaydreams · 16/04/2020 11:22

I haven’t let it dry naturally yet so a bit nervous of it going frizzy like my long hair used to!
I haven’t tried a hat yet, I was looking forward to wearing my straw hat on holiday strolling down the beach but unfortunately holiday has been cancelled. I’ll have to rock the straw hat in my back garden instead!!

Grin Yes! Rock that straw hat. Re frizziness - it will still happen with a pixie, so a hat is definitely your friend. On the plus side, it only takes a couple of minutes to blow dry compared to longer hair ... mine is now a bob and omg it takes about 15 minutes just to dry it fully as it's so thick and frizzy. Seriously tempted to get an undercut on one side, and underneath the back, when the hairdressers reopen, or might attempt it myself with my husband's clippers .....!

I think headbands look gorgeous with pixie cuts.

However - the photos you have posted aren’t what I would call a pixie, personally - the top is too long. To me a pixie cut is short all over (not shaved), with a cropped fringe that ends somewhere mid-forehead.

It's so quick to dry short hair you can blast it with a hand dryer. Or put a couple of hair slides /some product in. I have a selection of blokey VO5 gel/wax/paste products.

PinkDaydreams · 17/04/2020 07:30

I hadn’t thought of throwing some slides in. I’m going to experiment whilst we are in lockdown, thank you!
Yes I do agree @GhostCurry I normally think of those pixies pics when someone says pixie, but I think maybe it’s a variation on the pixie I have?

It depends really on your hair texture. You mentioned frizziness which makes me wonder if you have a bit of waviness/curliness. In which case you could just condition well, scrunch some mouse or gel in and let it dry naturally with a wave.

homemadecommunistrussia · 17/04/2020 08:13

That boggles my mind! The only time my hair sees a hairdryer is at the hairdressers. Obviously I know people use them at home, but the idea that there are people who never just let there hair dry naturally!? My mind is blown.

pinkblanchmange · 17/04/2020 08:16

Hair band or scarf, I'm wearing it like this a lot at the moment to hide my horrific roots !

I've had variations on a pixie for years and have never blow dried it. That's one of the joys of short hair!

Those pics are more of a French crop.

Making me want to cut my hair off again

PinkDaydreams · 17/04/2020 09:16

When I had long hair I never used a hairdryer on it unless I was going to straighten it.
@welldonesquirrels yes it’s curly, I’ll try the mousse idea you’ve suggested thank you! Oh, and I love your username!

Mine is similar to that. If it's straight then yes you can get away with air dry ok good with a hair and. Mine is quite xcurly so I either straighten the top (still takes less time than a wholeness head of hair) or mousse Andy a scrunch. You have to accentuate a side part if you do that otherwise you look like art garfunkel.

Sirthanksalot · 17/04/2020 11:10

Sorry-air dry with a hair band that meant to say!

welldonesquirrels · 17/04/2020 11:11

Thanks! :D

Also if you haven't come across it, I'd totally recommend the "curly girl method" (if you google there are tons of resources).
I'm curly too and going "curly girl" totally transformed my hair from frizzy nightmare to actual proper curls.

A wavy/curly version of the pics you posted would be so gorgeous.

PinkDaydreams · 17/04/2020 11:38

It’s funny you’ve mentioned curly girl as I was considering it for a bit. But got put off as it seems like you have to 100% commit to it whereas I’d like to straighten it a couple times a week too.
I really like these curly styles. Would I create that with mousse? I asked the hairdresser and he said to use hair straighteners to curl it.

It's totally possible to follow the CGM and straighten it too-results won't be quite as curly as if you were a purist but I think that's acceptable, plus you can curl the odd bit that doesn't comply. Doesn't need to be anything more that avoiding silicones in your shampoo and conditioner and finding the right kind of styler for you (gel mousse and/or curl crème, personally I could never be bothered searching for the ideal combo). The other aspect to it is the drying method which I think most people figure out themselves anyway but is useful to know. I apply styler when really wet, then separate into chunks with my fingers and scrunch very carefully with a t shirt to lose the weight and allow a curl-no rubbing or it'll frizz. But I expect you know about that already! There are other methods such as plunking/plopping and o clipping that you can try, all depends on how far the rabbit hole you want to go but they are mainly just variations of similar methods.
