How to get rid of flaky patch on scalp

Stressingismyhobby · 14/04/2020 15:48

I've been doing the curly girl method for about 2 years. When I started,I had a flaky patch on my scalp but it soon disappeared. However, it came back a few months ago and I can't get rid of it.

It's right in front of my ear near my hairline. It's not sore, or red, just dry and flaky. I don't have any skin conditions or scalp problems otherwise. Any suggestions on getting rid of it?

Is that the stuff in the brown bottle?

Moo Goo do a scalp cream which is excellent for this kind of thing.

The stuff in the brown bottle is Polytar shampoo: it went off the market a while ago, but maybe it's back now (over the counter).
Put some coconut oil on the area the night before, and wash hair in the morning.

Thanks - will look at the Moogoo and try since coconut oil. What would be causing the flakiness though?

I wish I knew. I think I have the same. I assumed it was dandruff but I only get it right at the front middle of my forehead. Dandruff shampoos seem to make it worse! So following for ideas.

My whole scalp was like this until I started taking evening primrose oil. I swallow them and actually burst the capsules open and dab on scalp then Wash in the morning 😊

Dandruff is usually accompanies by an oily scalp.

If you have a dry flaky scalp / area then that is unlikely to be dandruff and dandruff shampoo will make it worse.

Sounds like you need something nourishing and gentle OP.

Stressingismyhobby · 15/04/2020 10:37

@BunnytheHoneyBee something nourishing like what @JenNtonic suggests?
Yes, it's not oily - and it's like I can gently scratch off all the flakes and they just appear again after the next wash.

Use a nit comb to get it out

Thank you for starting this thread- I have the same thing, behind one ear... no where else. I use Euvomate ( sp?) on it sometimes and it calms right down but comes back again after a while. Have thought about asking doc but don’t want to waste their precious time even before CV. What even is it?!?

BunnytheHoneyBee · 15/04/2020 10:47

I haven’t tried Evening Primrose oil myself but sounds like it could work. You need something nourishing and moisturising - nothing drying and nothing that stings when you put it on.

I had this for a year I got a Vichy shampoo i dont remember the name but it was white with a green lid for dandruff. It cleared it within days. It never returned.

It's weird isn't it? I don't think it's any kind of fungal infection or anything like that because it's not inflamed or sore or spreading.
