Lockdown hairdos

Just for fun.....
I was talking to my DH the other day about how people will manage during the lockdown with their hair.
He and I are quite lucky, as I used to be a hairdresser. So I can cut his hair, as normal every 3 weeks.
I can also put a shop bought colour ( I always have plenty in stock at home) on mine and cut the fringe myself. I had a proper haircut the Friday before lockdown,so should be fine for a while, as it's long.

How are you and your OH managing?
Anyone embracing the grey?
I think there's going to be some great hairdos soon 😃.

My OH had his cut just before lockdown and says he will just wait, despite my offer to get the hair clippers out on him Grin. I had my hair cut shorter than usual in Feb and would love to get it cut again. I've stocked up with root dye so as long as my roots are done I won't be too unhappy and I'll just clip my fringe out of the way and go back to straightening till I can get it cut.

halloumi2019 · 13/04/2020 17:56

To be honest I don’t see the need to keep up with hair cuts? My hair is just past my shoulders and I would be happy for it to grow it longer, it used to be a bob so I’m happy with the growth. So aside from trimming it slightly to keep the ends full, there would be no disaster if it was left alone.

My colour is another story though. No grey but mismatched dark roots!

I'm a hairdresser, had my colour and cut done the day before lock down as I saw it coming and my roots were really bad 😳 my hubby does his grade 0 clippers all over himself, has done for years, my son on the other hand looks like a sheep dog, yes I could do it but I'm really enjoying the break away from the scissors, it's only longer hair, nothing to stress about, it'll get done at some point 🤔

wouldntmindbeingmrsw · 13/04/2020 21:21

I'm with you @Anniecott have a break from the scissors and chill.

I do my DP’s with clippers once a fortnight and have done for years. I had mine cut a fortnight before lockdown, but it’s usually done every five weeks and starting to look shaggy - it’s a Louise Brooks style bob. I might need to cut the fringe, and have proper hairdressing scissors, but am a bit scared!

TableNiner · 13/04/2020 22:33

I’ve started trying to properly master using my curling tongs as it makes my hair look a lot shorter and probably suits me more than straightening. Hopefully by the time lockdown ends I will be an expert. I’ve also been using some sun In type stuff in the sun to lighten it. I tend to have my hair highlighted once a year and use lightening and highlighting products the rest of the time anyway.

I cut my own hair at the weekend for the first time ever and I love it! The layers I gave myself are quite blocky but they weirdly work. I can't see the back though so that probably helps! :D

Beechview · 13/04/2020 22:40

I cut and coloured my own hair. It’s worked out ok. Not as good as getting it done professionally obviously but much better than it was.
Dh has clippers so died his own now.

TreestumpsAndTrampolines · 13/04/2020 22:41

DP just gives himself a buzz all over (and I do the edges).

I would normally chop off an inch or two of my own when it gets too long, but figured now was the time for something more dramatic, and have taken it to what I would call 'a mop' - I have slightly curly hair, and I love just giving it a rub in the morning and walking around like a madwoman. I think I might go for an official 'short choppy bob' once we're allowed to again.

DS1 has super-thick hair, which normally goes to a barber, but I'll either buzz him, or attempt a short back and sides of some sort (I have done it before. I'm slow, but it's not terrible-looking).

DS2 has curly hair he hates having cut, so it's probably going to be long enough for a pony tail by the time we're out of this (or would be, if it didn't ringlet straight up). The last thing I'm going to do is fight him to let me shear him a bit if I don't have to.

KatyaZamolodchikova · 13/04/2020 22:41

My hair is naturally wavy but I left it in a french plait for ahem two days. I only took it out because I was worried it would turn into a dreadlock. I looked like a lion. It was practically curly, and I have thick hair, it was so so huge. I’m still deciding if it’s a look I like and should try out of the house after all this...

Blankiefan · 13/04/2020 22:59

I am thinking of colouring my hair for the first time they grey us getting worse - it's probably needed it for a few years buy I've chickened out. At least now if it looks shit, I can hide away easily enough!

Any tips on the easiest box hair dye kit I can get in tesco?

SouthWestmom · 13/04/2020 23:03

Mine is already natural again, mainly grey and was in a sharp cheek bone type bib, straightened very day. I'm going to see what happens to it as it grows out. Currently hideous and I look like an ancient wise lady as I'm also working my way through all my skin care samples so varying degrees of outbreak/ reaction ...

Pluckedpencil · 13/04/2020 23:07

Last time I went to the hairdressers they gave me too much blonde which I really hated and made me distrust them. So I'm actually quite glad I have a few months to grow it so I can try my friend's salon where they seem to understand subtle colour changes and they can see my natural colour and tone it all together a bit.
DS and Dh got my buzz cut treatment on day 1, so that hopefully any mistakes grow out! Dd fringe was also cut by me, poor child!

BlackCatsRule88 · 13/04/2020 23:07

After seeing the actress from The Nest on This Morning earlier who has taken this opportunity to dye her hair bright, I’ve been toying with the idea all day. I’d never normally be brave enough, but if we’re in lockdown....

PatchworkElmer · 13/04/2020 23:10

DH can do his own with clippers (not sure about the beard though!!) DS wants to let his grow, so we’ll see how that goes. I’m happy to leave mine until the hairdresser’s opens again- I don’t colour it and it’s long and naturally wavy, so I’m just letting it do it’s own thing and trimming out split ends when I see them. My next haircut isn’t due until mid-May anyway.

Realistically, I think DS will be the ‘issue’ for us.

Minai · 14/04/2020 20:28

I’ve dyed my hair from highlighted blonde back to my natural mousy brown. I hate having roots showing and don’t have a hope in hell of getting to to look ok dyeing it blonde myself so went for a light brown box dye. It looks good but doesn’t feel like me but will stop me feeling too untidy until I can go back to the hairdresser.

Neolara · 14/04/2020 20:33

My hair looks absolutely terrible. I had a haircut booked for 2 days after lockdown began. It's usually short and layered so not a style that I feel I can let my (non hairdresser) DH loose on. So now I spend all my zoom meetings looking mournfully at the dogs dinner that is my head. That and my crinkly neck....

oohnicevase · 14/04/2020 20:51

Mine is very thick and curly and grows outwards!! I have it coloured and thinned but luckily not overly different to my natural colour .
I missed an appointment just before lockdown because my hairdresser had a cold .. so it's going to be about 16 weeks or more until I get it done again.

Charly17 · 14/04/2020 21:09

Was due appointment the week of lockdown. Roots were awful salt n pepper.on highlights..panicked and bought 4 hair colours. Now chestnut brown. At least the highlights didnt go green. Not bothered about cut as just long enough to tie back

Troels · 14/04/2020 21:14

Box colour as always for me, and curly curly hair that is very foorgiving as I cut it myself. When it looks a bit rough I stick it up like a pineapple.

Redcrayons · 14/04/2020 21:26

Mine is overdue a cut and colour but I’m just leaving it. I haven’t had the hairdryer or straighteners on it for weeks. Condition is great, it falls into quite a nice natural wave once it’s properly dry and looks OK.

I’m a lot greyer than I thought I was though so I might have to use my emergency box dye next time I’ve got to go anywhere other than Aldi.
