Is it really true that you only get white teeth from veneers? Are they really the only answer?

I haven't really got any big issue. My teeth are just going a bit yellow. Not pleased. I've always had a bright smile but it seems that's no longer really the case. I love the 'shape' and straightness of my teeth so didn't want veneers Sad

However, a friend of mine has a husband who's a dentist. She said whitening at a dentist won't really do anything, and the only way to get white teeth is to get veneers.

I thought you could get them bleached at a dentist but apparently it just doesn't work.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Not bothered about things like bonding for teeth since I like how they look apart from their colour now

I didn't Think it was my enamel going making them look more Yellow because I thought enamel was the stuff that made your teeth feel smooth?

For example, when I rub my tongue over them, it feels like I'm licking smooth marbel or porcelain

No idea to be honest Oohnicevase. Would need to examine in real life. I suspect there will be some remaining enamel. If not your teeth would be incredibly sensitive and probably very weak.

Thanks for replying again , no my teeth are fine , very strong and not sensitive at all really . My dentist doesn't have a great bed side manner or teeth for that matter and says mine has worn off .. I'm 46 with one tiny filling and I think I'm doing well, it's just that they were sooo white everyone used to ask me if they were real . Now they are not 😔

Sorry to derail thread but could any dentists advise on the best option for my husband's teeth? They have bothered him for years and just before the lockdown he made a dentist appointment to discuss which was of course then cancelled. He will rearrange for after this but it would be good to get an idea of options (and likely cost!) before he goes. Thanks!

I'd say for your husband, possibly a short course of orthodontic treatment, maybe something like Invisalign ( but again do your research, ask an orthodontist to do the treatment, not a new graduate who did a two day course).
Once the teeth have straightened try tooth whitening.
Least invasive and good results

I paid a few hundred pounds for a replacement crown and whitening. Really disappointed as the Crown has fallen out once, I don't feel secure with it and the reason I had it done has returned. Colour wise , he was adamant it had changed a lot but it really didn't. Do your research.
