How to use hyuralonic acid and retinol?

I recently bought this serum which I was using each morning with factor 50 sunscreen and moisturiser. It’s an eBay description as I can’t seem to find a link:

ROSVANEE Vitamin C Serum For Face And Eyes 60ML Hyaluronic Acid Vitamin C And E

I also bought this retinol which I was using each evening followed by coconut oil:

www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01HXV90BS/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_apip_XYwkMYHDlHm8N?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

I was happy with how my skin was looking but then I heard that you shouldn’t use retinol in the summer. Now I’m worried that I am doing something v wrong and am going to give myself skin cancer due to using retinol in the summer.

Please could more experienced beauty people let me know if this sounds like an ok routine or what I need to change? Aim is to look after skin now I am 40! Thanks!

Retinol is fine to use year-round as long as you use it correctly.

Retinol goes on at night, and make sure you're wearing at least factor 30 (preferably factor 50) sunscreen every day – even if it's not 'sunny' or you're going to be indoors. 2.5% is pretty high for a first-time retinol, so keep an eye on how it's affecting your skin. If you're noticing peeling or redness, reduce it to using every other night until your skin gets used to it.

Vitamin C is great, but shouldn't be combined with retinol, so I'd go with Vitamin C as part of your morning routine and retinol before bed.

Most skincare bods will recoil at the idea of a 'mechanical' scrub, i.e something with scratchy bits in –they basically rip tiny scratches in the surface of the skin. The acids are more than enough for smoothing, especially if you're using a retinoid at the same time.

Personally I'd also think twice about the coconut oil. Fine for your body, but it'll clog the pores on your skin terribly. A nice hydrating moisturiser or serum will be much lighter and gentler.

Does that all make sense? Is it helpful, or have I just flung too much to think about at you?! This stuff can really be overwhelming when you first get into it Grin

Basically what ladybee said.

I also agree that 2.5% as a starter retinol is high.

Thank you both so much! That’s really helpful. No issues with the retinol so I’ll stick with up but will ditch the coconut oil and see what effect that has. Thanks again!
