Comfy bras for 13 year olds

Thisismynewname123 · 11/04/2020 15:40

My daughter will no longer wear her super soft M&S bras because she says they rub. She only likes a couple of bras she has from Victoria's Secret Pink, but I don't want to keep getting them while she's still growing because they're expensive. Obviously I can't take her in anywhere for measuring at the moment, but her current bras are size 32A and I think the size still looks fine. Any suggestions for what I can buy her online that will be similar to but cheaper than her Pink bras?

The Hollister bralets were good if they still do them. They were on offer so cheap when we brought them. Like this for £10

Unless she is very overweight she is not a 32A - measure her properly and then look at Brastop and Bravissimo.

Thisismynewname123 · 11/04/2020 16:50

@ScrapThatThen those are nice. Are they soft? Do they give any support (not that she needs much)?

@faithinallisee she is probably more like a 30B but she finds 30s too tight, so while she doesn't need much support, I'll let her choose for comfort instead. She is nowhere near Bravissimo sizing! (I say that as a Bravissimo shopper myself, being a 32FF)

Have you tried measuring her. Maybe 30B felt tight as the cup was too small. B cup means only a 2 inch difference between the under an over bust measurement (without adding extra inches to the back measurements)

Thisismynewname123 · 11/04/2020 16:57

@dementedpixie, no I haven't tried measuring her because she's very body shy, even in front of me. The best I can get is a quick glance while she's changing to see if it looks like the fit is ok. I'll try this evening to see if I can convince her to let me measure her but she hasn't in the past

triptrapdollydumpling · 11/04/2020 17:11

Ask her to do the 2 measurements in private and write them down for you to check the measurements.

triptrapdollydumpling · 11/04/2020 17:12

*sizing!

Thisismynewname123 · 11/04/2020 17:18

I'll try. I'll see what I can do. In any case, I still need to find her some nice, teen type ones. She prefers trendy, sporty type bras like the ones from Pink. I wouldn't get them from somewhere like Bravissimo because she is only 13, she wouldn't wear, and certainly doesn't need, underwired bras. Any other ideas where I should look?

The angel range from M&S is your best bet. Asda t shirt bras start at 32a

Janek · 11/04/2020 17:22

My dd is the same - no way is she a 30, because that's what I am and she's much slighter than me, but the size she measures is not readily available and I think it would be too tight for her, so I've gone with your theory - that while she doesn't really need a bra she can go for comfort. She wears these from Debenhams: www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10701_10001_152010249662_-1

My dd is 12. 34B. She is a national triathlete with not an ounce of fat on her. Nationals this summer - and so your comment for the record is nonsense.

dementedpixie · 11/04/2020 17:52

Does she really measure 34 under her bust? Or are you adding extra inches to her measurements? I can wear a 36 back bra at a size 20/22 so I'm not sure your dd is really as big as a 34

Shitsngiggles79 · 11/04/2020 18:09

DD12 wears bralettes from Matalan in the ladies section, she's also picked some up from Primark that have adjustable straps that she really likes so an option when lockdown ends. She finds both types so much more comfy as the band is stretchy and they have removable inserts. They look like normal bras under her clothes and school shirts.

Thisismynewname123 · 11/04/2020 18:50

Thank you @Janek I'll give Debenhams a try (although slightly nervous about them going into administration!).

@okiedokieme she has several from M&S Angel range. Some she will tolerate more than others. I think it's the super soft ones that she will tolerate if her Pink ones are being washed. Otherwise she just goes braless!

@Shitsngiggles79 there is no Matalan near us. Primark will have to wait until after lockdown and I really want to get a couple in the meantime. But thanks for the suggestions.

Matalan are delivering currently but think they take a week or so to get to you. Hope you get something she likes that's comfy.

Veterinari · 11/04/2020 21:02

She's almost certainly too small in the cup and too large in the back. She needs to measure OP or she's likely to have a lifetime of uncomfortable unsupportive bras.

At age 13 and not overweight she's probably a 26-30 back and at least a c cup or higher. What's her clothing size?

She needs to measure her chest below her boobs and add NOTHING this is her band size, then measure her chest around her boobs not squashing them. The difference between the 2 measurements will give her cup size.

Bras are comfortable in the right size - I'm a 34GG and size 16 with broad shoulders, so I doubt very much your daughter is only 2 inches smaller than me in her chest. The biggest mistake women make is trying to squash their boobs into tiny cups and getting a massive band to compensate

Veterinari · 11/04/2020 21:04

@Chicinwellies
A national triathlete is hardly likely to be representative is she?

cocomelon23 · 11/04/2020 21:16

Chicinwellies

Your daughter must be very broad / wide. 34 is very big for a 12 year old. I'm a powerlifter so not exactly small and I wear a 32.

Thisismynewname123 · 11/04/2020 21:24

@Veterinari I tried earlier, but she wouldn't let me measure properly. I think she's a 28 back size. She wears a size 8-10 on top. I'll try ordering some different sizes and see how we get on. She will still prefer her Pink ones though because they're young and sporty looking. I'd love to find something similar that's just a bit cheaper. This kind of thing. They don't come smaller than a 32 back size anyway: www.victoriassecret.co.uk/pink/all-wear-everywhere-special-pink/wear-everywhere-wireless-lightly-lined-pink?ProductID=419430&CatalogueType=OLS

@Chicinwellies if your L12 year old with not an ounce of fat on her” measures 34 inches under her bust I will eat my hat. I am a size 14, average height, and my underbust is 31 inches. Absolutely no chance.

sausagedogpookie · 12/04/2020 04:13

My daughter has just turned 14 and I’ve had great success getting bras that pass muster with her from TKMaxx. She’s also really particular about comfort (don’t blame her) but also has a couple of faves from Pink that she likes.
Go on to TKMaxx online and search lingerie, then refine with ‘bralettes’ and ‘sports bras’ and a good selection come up, including some ‘designer’ ones that teens like eg Tommy Hilfiger. Her absolute fave one for comfort/everyday is a Sloggi ‘Zero feel’ one, which TKMaxx sometimes have at crazy cheap prices compared to eg.John Lewis! (Daughter is an XS in sloggi zero feel and is usually a ladies clothes size 8. I have two,one size S and one M and am a size 10/12 on top and would say the M is a bit big,if that helps.)

There are other makes at TKMaxx that are just like the zero feel (think they’re called Amaryllis and Deane&something?) which I also have. I like them as they’re seamless;I have bc surgery scars in armpit and under boob and these are the only bras I’ve found (tried A LOT) that don’t rub,or ride up,or roll over under the boob. They’re not fancy looking but for everyday comfort, they’re great. (Put it this way, first time I wore one of the Amaryllis ones, I had been in bed 10 minutes before I realised I still had it on,which means it’s v comfy in my book!🤦🏻‍♀️)

triptrapdollydumpling · 12/04/2020 08:11

You could also try Pretty little thing or jack wills online for bralettes similar to the Pink ones.
