Style and beauty for new Mum (help me feel human again)

I don't mean this to sound shallow, apologies if it does. Obviously the most important thing is that my baby is healthy and happy and everything else is trivial - but - I am nevertheless hoping to do a few things to help me feel human again and back to myself, after a difficult pregnancy. (This will be once we are back to "normal" / lockdown finally ends).

Like most people at the moment my hair is crying out for a trim so I'd like to book that- is it possible to book a haircut with a baby when breastfeeding?

I'm also going to go back to using my retinol which is not allowed in pregnancy.

Are there any other tips for beauty / style which can help a new mum feel remotely attractive again?

Congratulations on your new baby!

I always feel a lot better when I've given myself a pedicure. You could do it at home yourself? Every time I look at my pretty toes I feel cheerful! I used a foot file first and was amazed how effective it was.

Also, had a bath the other day and used those "scrubby gloves" (had a pair from boots/Superdrug hanging about in the airing cupboard), shaved legs etc. When I came out the bath I smothered myself in body lotion. Still feel soft and smooth a couple of days later.

I straighten just the front fringe/layers of my unruly hair - takes hardly any time and makes me look a lot better when it's pulled back rather than cringing at the wispy waves every time I look in the mirror.

I'm a first time Mum to a 4 month old so can relate to how you're feeling. I second using the exfoliating gloves in the shower and also recommend Superdrug's own brand version of Bio Oil for stretch marks and general moisturising. I had an extreme case of PUPP rash towards the end of my pregnancy and this stuff has made a world of difference to both my PUPP rash scars and my stretch marks, I've found it much more effective than Bio Oil. It's also a fraction of the price.

Congratulations on your new arrival-enjoy it and be kind to yourself.

Congratulations! You can book a haircut but it depends how far away you are from home. You may want someone to wheel the baby round or sit with them in a café while you are in there, assuming those open when hairdressers do, so you can feed before and after. I think when I went I expressed a small bottle and left it with DH.

I recommend regular hair masks until then. I like the Garnier Hair Food banana one. Also exfoliation and painted toenails as others have said.

Not shallow at all! Congratulations on your new arrival!
I second hair masks until you can get to the salon. You can definitely have your hair done with baby! Just take the pram in or express and leave baby with your husband or parents it that’s an option or you’re hapoy to do so.
Moustirise after every shower / bath, nice skincare routine. All will help you feel human and “nice” again.
