Hair toner - does anyone know how on earth to do this yourself?

I normally head to the salon once a month for a toner - I have medium brown hair with bleached ends (due to damage only bleached up to a sort of pale orange) which have been toned down to a light-mid brown. It's turned VERY brassy and I look a bit of a state!

Minor in the grand scheme of things I know, but does anyone know which toner I should use to produce a creamy light-mid brown and get rid of the brass?

I'm worried about just using an "ash" on it's own as it really greys out in my hair.

Any tips on what to buy online and from where massively appreciated!

I don't know about toners but you you could try fanola no orange or no yellow shampoo to try and take some of the brassiness out. You can get them off amazon and they work reasonably well.

I use Lee Stafford Bleach Blonde Shampoo, available from Boots, every few weeks leaving it on for a minute. It works so well my hairdresser started using it instead of toner. Careful on your forehead it can turn it purple Grin

I would just go for a purple shampoo - my hairdresser says different toners can 'grab' your hair faster or slower, and you could end up with it really dark. I've had enough hair disasters in my life to have got to the point where I just don't touch it myself anymore! You can leave the purple shampoo on for 5-10 minutes and it usually works wonders for brassiness :)

^brown hair needs blue shampoo, not purple. Blue counteracts orange, purple counteracts yellow. Matrix brass off is really good, cheap too.

You could ask your salon if they can tell you which toner they use, the level is the most important information. My salon is still contactable via email and social media, not sure if yours is.

You could then buy the toner or a similar product. You’d need something that probably has an ash/cool tone that’s either the same level as your current colour or lighter.

@nitgel so good isn’t it! I just used the brass of mask and it has toned my hair wonderfully
