Gym trainers

Maybe this should be in the exercise topic..
Anyway what trainers do you wear to the gym?
My oh has just pointed out that my trainers are actually running trainers and I shouldn't be wearing them in the gym..I do weights, light cardio, and things like glute bridges and hip thrusts. Dont do heavy lifting or squats or the like so does it matter what I wear?
If so what do you recommend? I only really like Adidas or Nike

Sorry, I don't really get this. Why can't you wear running shoes in the gym? Unless you're worried about putting too many miles on your running shoes, but it doesn't sound like that's the issue here?

I wear my older running shoes in the gym, once they're retiring from service...

Well this is what I thought but apparently they're not made for working out in the gym.
They dont have the right support is what I've been told.

It probably doesn't make a difference if you're not lifting heavy weights.

But running shows are designed to absorb impact, so if you were lifting heavy weights for squats, deadlifts etc - then your shoes would be absorbing some of the energy you're generating to lift the weight, meaning your lift is less effective. Shoes like the Powerlift are less springy so the energy doesn't get dissipated so much - you want more impact to drive the weight. But if you're doing cardio and machines, you won't notice a difference...

I dont lift heavy weights so I'm probably fine with the ones I have then

I agree that unless you are into heavy barbell weight lifting, you are fine with what you have. The vast majority of trainers I see in the gym are running styles.
If you do decide to try something heavier like deadlifts, then take your shoes off and do it in your socks.
