Help! Home Hair Dye

Hi

I decided to have a go at a box dye (nice & easy) to cover my greys that seem to be multiplying.
It all seemed good till I realised that my hair right down my parting seems greasy, like I haven’t washed shampoo out properly. After washing a couple of times I now realise this isn’t going away!

Can I correct this or I am I destined to forever look like I haven’t washed my hair!

Any help is much appreciated x

That seems odd. I’ve used boxed dyed loads, and never had this. Can you post a picture (face obscured) so we can see what you mean?
What shampoo did you use?

Paulac77 · 06/04/2020 19:52

Tbh you can’t really tell in the picture! Just looks like I haven’t washed it at the roots - separating, greasy. Middle to end of hair is fine though.
I’ve only used home dye kits a couple of tones before and they were semi perm. This is permanent, so don’t know if that could make a difference.
I used my Toni & Guy Bedhead Urban Antidotes shampoo after followed by the conditioner in the box

The best dye ive used is john frieda foam, so easg and leaves hair in good condition. Perhaps a shampoo scrub is needed, i love the body shop one but there are a few out there

I used that shampoo & conditioner in the past, it can leave your hair weighed down, because it’s designed for dry hair so highly conditioning. Maybe your hair is just weighed down with product and needs a clarifying shampoo to remove the residue

The tigi duo that is!

Thanks... I’ll give that a go x

I haven't come across this myself, but I always wash with clarifying shampoo before doing a home dye to ensure the dye gets to the roots, not the grease. Maybe clarifying shampoo would help clear this up now?
I am a huge fan of Daniel Field Water Colours home dye. It doesn't lighten your hair but it covers grey really well. There's no peroxide, so no damage to your hair. (I do not work for them, I'm just pathetically grateful for their product!)

Or take a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda, mix it with your shampoo, and massage the roots with that. It should help.

Baby shampoo always works when this happens here
