I am desperate!

I am sorry if this is long, but I need a new shampoo and I need recommendations for a very sore, oily scalp that at the moment feels like it's on fire. There's no dandruff and my hair is fine, but loads of it.

I'm not sure if I have dermatitis , but I am very sensitive to almost all shampoos, especially professional ones. For example, my hairdresser always uses olaplex shampoo and I want to rip my hair off by the next day. Also I get it more when I'm stressed.

I have tried tgel, ginger shampoo from TBS, salicylic acid shampoo, ACV rinse, oiling my scalp, tea tree oil in my shampoo, even bicarbonate. Nothing works...

Atm I use OGX (the clear coconut one, as anything with shimmer or anything with SLS seems to make it worse) but it's only washing, not doing anything to soothe my scalp. I shampoo, condition/mask, shampoo again.
The only thing that helps for a bit is dying my hair every 3-4 weeks and for some reason my scalp seems to settle for a week or two.

I know it's a small thing , but I'm desperate ( so desperate that I've used some H&S the other day 😭)

I would love to find a natural shampoo / bar /miracle potion that could help.

Please tell me there is something for me ! 🙏

I'm sure I read about H&S working really well whilst you're using it. But it has just enough zinc in it to stop once you use something else. It helps with symptoms but doesn't cure it kind of thing. But that's with most shampoos isn't it?
It was a last resort as I'd ran out of TGel , it makes my hair dry as straw ☹️

And I'm not using any dry shampoo at the (I haven't got any in the house) and it's gone worse I would say. Oilier and very itchy

I’d definitely try Nizoral if your hair dye is making things better, especially if your scalp is itchy. I’d also recommend Green People as well, their scent free shampoo is a regular for me. Hope you find a solution soon!

FlamingIris · 02/04/2020 19:41

I use aveeno shampoo. It’s the only shampoo I don’t seem to be allergic to. The one with the blue lid/top.

reginafalange2020 · 02/04/2020 19:46

I would try one thing and stick to it for a week or so. I would suggest like others have a gentle baby shampoo too. I'd also steer clear of dry shampoo. It really dries you out and I would think it could make it worse.

Bounty Hunter Shampoo Bar www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07JMPH1NB?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Olsson shampoo is the best I've used for sensitive scalps.
I used to buy it from boots for about £10, but haven't seen it for a while.

TheCanyon · 03/04/2020 22:11

The only thing that helped my scalp has been betnovat oil, perfect for my already greasy hair Hmm it realy does help though.

Howzaboutye · 03/04/2020 22:16

Definitely try green people or child's farm. Do not go anywhere near h&s etc, acids etc.
And no bicarb!

slinkysaluki · 04/04/2020 08:57

Tea Tree oil shampoo may be worth a try, a good one

silentpool · 04/04/2020 09:12

The L'Oreal Botanical sensitive scalp one is fragranced but my scalp actually feels ok (i.e not burning and sore) after using it. Plus I do not feel that nasty dry build up on the scalp that I get as a reaction to normal shampoos. I might also try one of the medicated ones, I think.

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 04/04/2020 09:19

Maybe baby shampoo. Think there are a few fragrance free ones.

Toomanydishes · 04/04/2020 20:36

Many thanks to all the PPs💐
I have ordered a few products and I'm hoping to see some improvements 🤞🏻

@TheCanyon you could ask for Dovobet gel; it’s less greasy than the oil.

Marmaladegin · 05/04/2020 21:40

Use the lockdown to go shampoo free for a while? I don't use it and just wash with conditioner and my scalp has never felt better

Toomanydishes · 07/04/2020 16:16

@Marmaladegin I might try to do that again , what are you using ?

OP posts:
ritzbiscuits · 07/04/2020 22:48

@Toomanydishes please take care dropping shampoo. Washing in conditioner made my scalp 10 times worse. Unfortunately it's trial and error to see what works for you. I would personally advocate using a very mild shampoo at the minimum to stop build up on the scalp.

Let us know how you get on x

TeaAddict235 · 08/04/2020 13:44

What is wrong with head and shoulders @Howzaboutye ? I didn't know that there was something wrong with it?

TheHumansAreDefinitelyDead · 08/04/2020 13:56

Eucerin is a proper gentle (German medicinal PH neutral) shampoo, it’s only thing my 85yr old dad with dermatitis can use

Marmaladegin · 09/04/2020 12:00

I use faith in nature conditioner only to wash with. Smells beautiful. I follow curly girl method loosely
