Shampoo bars

I attempted shampoo bars before and my hair was just so waxy and didn’t feel clean at all. I suspect I’m just not doing it right. A quick google search isn’t giving me much. Does anyone have any tips?

I don't know OP, I've tried a few now and never love them, they always seem to leave my hair a bit flat and not feeling clean regardless of how thoroughly I rinse, or otherwise leave it feeling like hay and no decent inbetween.

I gave up in the end and started using faith in nature shampoos which I do quite like (though aren't perfect) and just buy the refill to avoid as much plastic usage.

Try using a vinegar rinse, it works brilliantly and my hair is now better than with bottle shampoo and conditioner. I use about a tablespoon of vinegar in a cup of water and pour it over once I’ve rinsed out the shampoo. Rub it through, rinse it out and that’s it. Your hair doesn’t smell of vinegar don’t worry!

We use Grüum and they are the best ones we've tried. The only tip I've got is to get your hair really wet first, and then wet the bar too before use. That makes your hair lather up quickly and so uses less product. That seems to result in less deposit on your hair

Thanks all! I did see gruum today online actually, and was curious so that’s useful to know.

I’ve been using this period as a time to try and drag out the time between washes. And thought while I was at it to retry bars. People who crack it seem to swear by them!!

Lush shampoo bars are basically just solid 'normal' shampoo and work fine. I've tried more natural soap bars and they just don't work with my hair at all, even with vinegar rinses.

Gruum are good. Also Soul and Soap. They last for ages. I use liquid shampoo once a week to get rid of residue.

We have one from The Natural Soap Company who are based in Wells, Norfolk. It’s lovely and leaves the hair feeling really clean and fresh and best of all it lasts months.

I’ve got an olive oil soap bar from Estia and it’s rather nice. I got it at the farmers’ market weeks ago and the woman said not to use conditioner but my hair always goes static without conditioner no matter what kind of shampoo I’m using. I see why because it definitely leaves my hair soft, but I have had to use a bit of conditioner too.

My DD got me one for Mother's day from one of her friends who makes them. I was a bit dubious, but it's honestly been amazing. My hair is supersoft and shiny, and it's really tamed my hair down.

I'm converted.

They take time to get used to. When you do you will lov them. Lush has a great conditioner - daddy-o the purple one which I use occasionally. I wouldn't change back to liquid shampoo now now.
