When I had to go to court I knew I would not wear the court clothes again. I went to a cheap shit shop and bought a classic set of clothes which I then gave away the moment it was all over. Shoes, suit, the shirt, the lot.

Notyummy · 11/09/2007 09:37

Depends on your budget. If you want cheap and cheerfful, Dottie Ps actually do a good range of fairly plain flattering suits. A bit more expensive, but better quality...M and S. I know neither of these is exciting, but their range is very 'respectable' andf suitable for a court appearance.

Or does it have to be on-line?? I'm not sure about the on-line status of either of these.

NotAnOtter · 11/09/2007 09:38

thats a good idea gglimpopo

maybe i should just go to dorothy perkins

It worked for me. The trial was over several days and I wore the same 'uniform' every day, just washing the shirt and hanging it up to drip dry (hidden under suit so no ironing!) each night, as I was in a hotel near the HIgh Courts. I hung on to see if it went to appeal, it didn't. Wonderfully cathartic to ceremoniously get rid of everything afterwards.

Hulababy · 11/09/2007 09:42

If you want the cheap option and not wearing it again, try somewhere like Asda. They have some suits that look fine, are not expesnive - and you can buy blouses for £2.50 upwards, etc.

TotalChaos · 11/09/2007 09:43

agree with Dotty P's. Don't bother with a shirt - go for a smart top you don't have to iron - M & S or Next will have plenty of these.

ggglimpopo · 11/09/2007 09:43

Oh, and it was like being an actor in a play. I drew my hair back into a tight ponytail and wore very little makeup and one of the witnesses, who knew me well, didn't recognise me!It helped me get through it, dressing a role.

I think it depends if you are defendant, victim, witness or expert on how you dress. One woman was in tracksuit bottoms and a tee shirt and it was hard to take her seriuosly.

NotAnOtter · 11/09/2007 09:52

i am victim/witness

Think of it like camouflage - buy something cheap, anonymous and neutral and it can be your carapace.

ggglimpopo · 11/09/2007 10:35

I was the victim NOA. It will be ok. You just need to get it over with. contact me if you want. Mine went to the high courts and the bastard got what he deserved.

M&S have some very cheap options. I got a jacket for £30, a skirt for £15 and trousers for £15 when I needed some interview wear.

I bought this with a matching dress as well.

NotAnOtter · 11/09/2007 12:56

thankyou all
no nearer
been to doctors instead

NAO - sorry you have an ordeal going on - if you posted about it here, i missed it, but sympathy anyway.

Does it really matter what you wear as long as it is clean and comfortable? If it was me, I think i would feel strongest as close to my natural self as possible. Can you just wear your best trousers and a smart top? There may be some court protocol i don't know about.

Hold tight.

TigerFeet · 11/09/2007 13:13

Do you have a Matalan near you? I got an interview suit from there for less than £25 when utterly skint.

Don't know your story but wishing you strength.

NotAnOtter · 11/09/2007 17:28

thankyo everyone
