If your a comfortable 12 in jeans

Whatsthesmell · 26/03/2020 20:42

Hopefully not a too odd a request.
I was wondering if anyone who is a comfortable size 12 in jeans could tell me the measurements of your hips, thighs and calves.

I've been working on shifting the baby weight to get back into my old clothes, I'm almost at my old weight but alot bigger this time than I was pre baby so I'm now focusing on inches and I have no idea what I'm aiming for.

So if any of my unknown body idols wouldn't mind sharing there measurements I'd be so grateful.

Feel free to throw in your waist bust too if you like.. Grin

I’m a 12 on the bottom half and I buy jeans with a 30in waist of that helps.

Bluntness100 · 27/03/2020 14:32

A uk twelve is generally a thirty waist and 39/40 hips. Some stores clearly deviate, some smaller, some larger, but that’s the standard.

Bluntness100 · 27/03/2020 14:33

So to be comfortable, I’d aim slightly smaller in terms of actual body size..

Whatsthesmell · 27/03/2020 15:00

Brilliant thank you!
I appear to have much thicker legs now so wonder if they will struggle. Just now I'm wearing a 14 which are very roomy in the waist but strangle my legs of I bend down 😂

That might just be the style/make.
I totally get the strangled legs thing!

Whycantibetangy · 27/03/2020 15:04

If I wear jeans in a 12, they fit me in the morning but they ‘grow’ as the day goes on so I end up hitching them up from mid afternoon Confused

georgialondon · 27/03/2020 15:08

Same I am a smallish size 12 and buy 30 waist. My waist is smaller than that but all my jeans fit on the hips rather than waist.

Bluntness100 · 27/03/2020 15:15

Sounds like you’re a pear shape. I’m more straight up and down and prone to an apple if I gain weight, but I think there are folks who could recommend jeans for a pear on here.

Samtsirch · 27/03/2020 15:23

I think it’s called vanity sizing
A lot of shops have different sizes ; a size 8 in top shop would be a size 12 in M&S
Also clothing size depends on Height and body structure.
Women’s bodies do swell in the stomach area later in the day,
especially after having given birth .
Also bone structure can marginally shift after vaginal child birth, which can have a drastic effect on clothing size.

homemadecommunistrussia · 27/03/2020 15:27

That's not the op's problem though, she says her jeans are tight on the legs and roomy on the waist...

Badabingbadabum · 27/03/2020 15:29

If it helps, I have less fat than before my pregnancies but my body is a different shape. My hips are definitely wider now.

qweryuiop · 27/03/2020 15:36

Whatever the law, it would be better if we all stayed inside or in private gardens. If that feels impossible, then we should minimise the time spent in public places (if only to allow others time to use them too) A kick about in the park isn't the most efficient form of exercise. Could they go for a run together instead? Few laps of the park?

qweryuiop · 27/03/2020 15:37

My apologies, no idea how I ended up here. Was meant to post the above on a different thread
Please ignore me!!

Whatsthesmell · 27/03/2020 16:27

Thanks everyone, @Bluntness100 I agree I am pear shaped although I do think I look more mashed potato shaped 😂

My propose of this thread was to figure a size in inches to aim for rather than a weight on scales.

My body has definitely changed since two babies a year a part and I'm ok with that. But I do think I can get back to size 12 but accept if size 10 isn't reachable

Hey OP, my tape measure was handy and I'm a comfortable 12. Hips 34, thighs 21, calves 13. Waist is 29, bust 38. Hope that helps!

Whatsthesmell · 27/03/2020 19:24

@NoBloodyFighting amazing, thank you so much. Exactly what I'm looking for

Size 12 is just a number. Ignore the size on the label and wear what suits you. Like pp, sizes vary.
Go (when CV crisis over) to shops that do lots of different jeans. M&S, Topshop, Gap would be three to consider. Try several styles and be prepared to go up or down a size. Usually you can size down a size or two in M&S and Gap.

If you have the budget look at more expensive brands. I like Levi's - the curve ones are more for pear shapes. I like 7 for all mankind and Diesel for being comfortable to wear and they wear well. Boden and Fat Face ones have also been great ones.

I am far too much of a coward to let a tape measure near my body.

NoBloodyFighting · 27/03/2020 19:31

No problem OP. Agree with other posters though about variations between shops/vanity sizing, but at this shape(?) or with these measurements, it's v rare I'm not comfortable in high street 12 jeans (DP/new look/primark etc).

redroses86 · 27/03/2020 20:10

Hiya,

If it helps I was in your position last year. Desperate just to fit into my size 10/12 clothes after baby number 2. I measure in inches too. I found that I could fit back into my size 12 jeans when my waist was 31 inches, my belly button was 35 inches and the biggest part of my thigh was 22 inches.
I focused on this rather than weight and found it helped. I used Lucy Wyndham Read’s 7 minute workouts, just one a day really did make a difference to the inches.

littlenamechanger · 27/03/2020 20:12

When I was a 12 my hips were 39 and thighs 24 each. Waist was smaller, about a 30 so I probably could have done with a 14 for the legs but they'd have fallen down!

Whatsthesmell · 27/03/2020 20:49

Thank you everyone.
I know shops differ but looking for a average I guess.

My thighs are 21.5 but my calves at 18!!! Think this is my problem.

You have all helped me
@littlenamechanger this is my problem my jeans fall down but are choking my legs. This is standard between brands and even trousers.

It might be the style of jeans. You can try wide leg, bootleg, ...or straight jeans if it's skinny jeans that you are currently wearing. There are lots of different styles. If the jeans suit you, you'll look great.
You could try ones with different lycra content or jegging type ones for more comfort.

I think that a higher lycra content means you usually need a belt.

When the current crisis is over, it might be worth getting a personal shopper appointment at John Lewis or somewhere to see what suits you.

littlenamechanger · 27/03/2020 21:26

@whatsthesmell I do quite well with Next's relaxed skinny fit. And a belt. Grin

delilahbucket · 27/03/2020 21:31

I'm sorry, I don't measure in inches, but my thighs are 60cm, waist 80cm, hips 96cm, calves 38cm. I've always had thighs 🙄. I comfortably wear a 12 from most shops.
