Wella Koleston - what do I need?

I've always had my hair coloured at a salon. I know which colour I need in Wella Koleston, but what else do I need to buy?? To mix it with?

You also need peroxide - 6%, 9% or 12%. Unsure which one; it may depend on the colour you're using. I would ask DD but she's ill in bed. She colours my hair and is a Level 3 trained hairdresser.

Six percent peroxide, which you mix 1:1, so 30ml peroxide with 30ml colour. I use two colours, 15ml of each. You probably want a tint bowl and brush if you can, plus a tail comb. Oh, and gloves, which might be the hardest thing to get hold of!

Thank you so much, I'm desperate. Also a bit nervous!

Are you sure you don’t need two colours? You should have a base colour (eg, light brown) and mix if with another colour (eg golden brown) to stop it looking “flat”.

Don’t be scared though. My hairdresser told me exactly what to do, and it works absolutely fine - I’ve done it for years now, I just get it cut in the salon. Use a clarifying shampoo before colouring to make sure you don’t have any buildup of products on your hair. I have a Tresemme one for this particular purpose, but I suspect something like Head and Shoukders would do the job.

Oh god I don't know about base colour? Can't ask my hairdresser now they're closed.

You might find some help on hair forums? I am not a hairdresser, but mine are 55/0 base colour, which has a brown bit on the end of the box, and 5/37 other colour which has yellow, then I mix then up with the peroxide. (My hair is darkish brown with a slightly reddish tone, and about 10% grey.)

If you have 50% white hair you need to use 50% base plus desired shade. Mix with 20 vol. I haven't used wella in years so cant recommend more than that really.
