Gel nails

Ok so I have gels. Got them done just before the health crisis hit so with a bit of care they should last for three weeks. After which time they’ll need to come off. How do I do this at home? And any tips please on how to care for the natural nails underneath which are thin and ridged. Many thanks.

I have gel nails and my nail technician said I will need to file the gel off. I'm intending to do this when I can't bear the gap anymore! I'll also cut them down at the same time and try and nourish the nail bed with an oil.

Then paint them a nice nude colour and wait till this madness is over and I can get them redone!!

There's loads of YouTube videos but it's quite easy. You need to file off the the top layer and as much of the polish as you can without going down to the nail. Then soak in acetone or put acetone on some cotton wool and wrap around the nail using foil. Leave for about 10 minutes then scrape off.

I ordered rough files, cotton pads, acetone, a nail strengthening polish and some cuticle oil from Amazon and removed my gels yesterday. I did one hand at a time and they are absolutely fine. I'm making sure I'm using cuticle oil regularly to keep them strong until I can get back to the salon.

I will have to remove mine in a couple of weeks. My nail tech has had to close her salon but is selling and delivering removal kits with instructions. Can you contact whoever put them on and ask for the same?

I am going to try to file mine down where the gap is then paint over them. Hopefully the gel will make them a bit stronger as my nails keep breaking

I have acrylics but I'm sure gels are removed in a similar way. File to break the top layer, then either fill a small bowl with pure acetone and place that bowl in a higher bowl full of boiling water, and soak your nails. Or soak cotton pads in pure acetone, put them on your nails and wrap them in foil. There is less smell the second way obviously.
I'll be leaving mine on as long as I can. I have them very long anyway so no need to shorten the length. My nail lady said in an emergency I can use nail glue to glue and lifting until I can get to her (I know you're bit really meant to), so I'll get some glue and glue them if they start to lift badly. (Don't want to take them off as it's my birthday next week and my wedding anniversary the week after, so hoping they will last at least 7 weeks, are currently 3 weeks old).
