Old lady hands from too much hand washing

Does anyone have any tried and tested cures for sore, very dry hands? I’ve been religiously using my Clarins hand cream but it’s not touching it. They’re red, bumpy and feel a bit like a lizard!
Are there any home remedies I could try?

Lotil cream is the best. It was recommended to me when I had my first baby and my hands were raw from the all the washing.

Yes! I've just been moaning about this I have gone for my Mom's old favourite Attrixo

JangoInTheFamilyWay · 19/03/2020 20:15

Nursem hand cream is the only one that doesn't make mine sore, the intensive one in the pot is best

Speminalium · 19/03/2020 20:16

Atrixo doesn't touch mine, Aveeno does work. My hands went red and flaky when all this insane handwashing started and since I've sourced some Aveeno hand cream they are nearly back to normal.

Thanks so much - I’ll see what I can get on my Tesco order!

I'm a hca so wash my hands what feels like a thousand times a day anyway and mine suffer for it. I swear by aveeno. Have a little sample pot that I keep in my pocket filled with aveeno and put some on about four times a day.

Lush lemony flutter and cotton gloves at night

I got some o'Keefes hard working hands from the garden centre a couple of weeks ago. It's fantastic stuff and I've seen it in the supermarket to, but can't remember which one.
I just use a tiny amount at bedtime.

ShadyAcromat · 19/03/2020 20:26

Amazon and Superdrug sell O'Keefes. You can make a home made scrub with olive oil and granulated sugar - there's loads of recipes online of different kitchen ingredients.

One of the best remedies I have found is some Vaseline mixed with olive oil. Slather hands in it, put hands in plastic bags and wrap in a warm towel for a bit. Rub in to your hands for a bit and then wipe the excess with a paper towel. Really helps to rehydrate your hands.

I know what you mean about old lady hands! Mine look horribly crepey at the moment. Shock

Garnier intensive 7 days restoring hand cream! Amazing stuff! I have a lot of nurse friends and they all swear by it - use daily or twice daily if your hands really need a treat it’s a miracle and cheap as chips!

I've found the Aveeno dupe in Aldi ok and the Palmer's Cocoa Butter hand cream also good. I have a Boots order with a hyaluronic acid one coming (can't remember the name but it had good reviews) on Monday.

Soap rather than handwash seems to be better for my poor hands. I'm used to washing them a lot since having my daughter and I'm a teacher so I have always used hand sanitizer to combat the snotty pupils but my hands have taken such a battering this last couple of weeks!

I tried Vaseline over hand cream and it stung so much I washed it off again! A layer of sudocrem overnight worked wonders

Barbaraanne22 · 21/03/2020 07:36

I was going to say Body Shop Hemp handcream. But they've just shut all their shop.

Silverstreaks · 21/03/2020 11:59

Lidl SOS hand cream.

Auldspinster · 21/03/2020 12:48

Would second Lotil, smells lovely too.

LargeGinOnTap · 21/03/2020 12:50

Attrixo

Plus apply Vaseline to the really sore bits

dontgobaconmyheart · 21/03/2020 13:02

'Old lady hands' - nice Hmm

That aside, I would stick to unperfumed creams as the over washing tends to create micro cuts if the skin gets dry, and fragrance will irritate it. Look for things heavy in glycerine or pay a bit more and look for urea based creams.

My top tip actually is just to put a bit of olive oil (or whatever you have in the kitchen) in your palm, add a bit of warm water and massage in, rinse off with warm water and pat dry. Instant relief.

Another vote for O'Keefe's working hands... available on amazon prime

GingerFigs · 21/03/2020 13:33

@Barbaraanne22 Bodyshop shops are closed but you can order online Smile

Nutrogena hand cream lathered on last thing at night, then sleep in white cotton gloves.
Wake up with nice soft hands. 🙂

DidgeDoolittle · 21/03/2020 13:51

Weleda skinfood applied in a thick layer at night, is the only thing stopping my hands from shrivelling up completely.
