Washing a duvet coat

I have an M&S long duvet type coat which really needs a wash and I have plenty of time at the moment. It says to wash it and then tumble dry it with tennis balls but I don't have a tumble dryer nor does anyone I know. Has anyone successfully washed theirs and have any tips? I know it should be non-bio washing powder.

TIA (and sorry for such a boring thread but it does not mention the C-word!)

Hi. I don't have a tumble dryer either and so take mine to the local laundry and use their tumble dryers. Family member just dries theirs on radiators. I don't think that this works well though as their coats seem to have lost their 'puffiness'.

Thanks @autumnpie I think I will look into the local laundrette in that case.

I have a uniqlo down coat that says dry clean only on the label but I have machine washed and tumble dried it with no issues. My tumble drier broke recently and I dried it on the rack next to the radiator. As long as it dries out thoroughly it's fine. Mine is as puffy as ever. You do have to take care to dry it properly all the way through tho as any damp bits will smell and wont puff up.

When I washed mine, I put it on a hanger in a sunny window to mainly dry then, then fluffed it in the tumble dryer with balls. Came out perfect. I think you will need your laundrette's tumble dryer for 15 or 20 minutes.

Thanks both. There is a local laundrette so will wash and hang on the line on a sunny day and then nip down to dry it off

You need to dry it in a drier .. dry cleaners will wash it for you for about £20. It will go flat if you try and dry in without . !
