Closed comedones

Hey 👋

I’ve recently been using the body shop chamomile cleansing butter to remove my make-up and I’ve had to stop using it 🙈. It’s done such a number on my skin. I now have lots of little closed comedones on my cheeks- my complexion looks awful in profile. I looked on the ingredients list after the horse had bolted and it seems that one of the first ingredients is super occlusive. I didn’t even think to check as my skin is not usually reactive.
What do I do now? I’ve had these for a few weeks now and they don’t seem to be going anywhere. I had just got into a good place with my skin after a 5month course of roaccutane (not pleasant) so I’m kicking myself.

Thanks in advance 🤞

I'd suggest a BHA. Paula's choice is the best, it will take a little while though.

Thanks for the advice @whitershadeofpale - I’ll definitely check it out. When you say a while, how long are we talking roughly? Weeks or months? Xx

a few weeks I'd say.

Thank you- I was worried I was in for another long slog with my skin. That’s a lesson learned...check ingredients in future. Would you say that the 2% BHA lotion from Paula’s choice would be a good fit? Xx

That's what I use, I notice that if I miss a while they come back, but I'm prone to a few on my chin. It's helps with congestion on/ around my nose too.

OP the exact same thing happened to me with the chamomile cleansing oil. In my case it was all over my chin, it all erupted at once and took quite a while to go. In my case each CC turned into a spot, lurked for a few days before I could extract it, and then was gone, so it was pretty much a gradual improvement.

Anyway, at the time I just sort of waited it out (and switched to Clearasil!) but in the last couple of years I've started using acid toners, and I've found they really speed CCs along. I use Pixi Glow Tonic, and Alpha H Liquid Gold every other evening.

For a terrific face mask to suck the little buggers out, I really recommend Queen Helene Mint Julep.

Good luck!

@QuimReaper it’s so annoying isn’t it? I have had a couple that have turned into spots but the ones that are left a tiny but clustered together 🙈. Did they eventually clear up for you? I’ll have a look at alternating a BHA with an AHA perhaps 🤔 I’ll check out the pixi glow tonic also xx

Exfoliating with sugar, any type is gentle but effective and much cheaper.

QuimReaper · 10/03/2020 17:15

Yes, they all went without a trace thankfully! It was quite fascinating how they came to the surface in such orderly fashion one by one, so as soon as one was on its way out, another was on its way in, like they were in a sort of coordinated relay. Sounds like you've got off a bit more lightly with yours mostly staying under the surface, I'm sure some good acid exfoliation will see them off.

I’ve just bought this as I had a massive under the skin spot on my cheek that has been there nearly a month won’t pop or anything and wasn’t getting any smaller even when using my epiduo on it. No word of a lie I put it on there last night and it has completely reduced in size and is now almost flat. It is good for under skin sport and closed comdones as it contains salicylic acid.

I’ve also bought used Paul’s choice BHA before for closed comdones and Hated it broke me out massively.

The bottle of the origins is tiny for £16 but worth it

RD15 · 10/03/2020 19:02

@Lucy2999 that’s interesting about the Paula’s choice - I’ll spot test first.

I think in my youth I might have tried that origins one before but thanks for the reminder and the link 😊.

In patches my skin feels very tough like sandpaper xx

I second the Paula’s Choice BHA - I use the liquid though. Magic stuff. It’s a chemical exfoliant so will do the job of a scrub with less irritation hopefully.

Sorry old thread but I have been using the body shop cleansing butter and have problem skin. What is it specifically about it that is bad for skin?
