my dd (8 year old) has complex gone off anything pink/ remotely dress like etc.

She has decided she would like to get her blonde fine (but a lot of it) hair cut, short. Very short. I'm trying to support her and promote her individual sense of style but i find it hard. Anyway i could do with advice

how do i ask for this at the hairdressers? any ideas on style?

What are you finding hard about it? Is it like the "first haircut" weird emotions that everyone has but no one can explain, or something different.

Id sit down with your daughter at the computer, get up google images, search "short haircuts for little girls" and go through the pictures together and work out what she'd like. Then take the pictures to the hairdresser.

RatherBeRiding · 09/03/2020 16:36

Google very short haircuts for young girls and you'll get some brilliant ideas - let your DD look at them too and see if she has a favourite look then take the pic to a hairdresser.

And don't forget - if it turns out she doesn't like it after all it WILL grow back.

What's so hard? My 6 year old DD has had a short Bob for ages...

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 09/03/2020 16:36

It's only hair. It will grow back if she hates it.

HulksPurplePanties · 09/03/2020 16:37

My DD also hates dresses and her favorite color is blue...your post is quite sexist...

If you Google little girl pixie cut there are loads of lovely options. Go for it!

SparkyBlue · 09/03/2020 16:40

My seven year old chopped all her hair off last summer (not herself obviously the hairdresser did it😀). She was sick to death of tying it up for school and fixing it for ballet so she wanted to try it short. She loved the impact it made on everyone and how much of a surprise it gave them as she is a super girly girl. It was a short bob and not a super short hairstyle but a massive difference and none of her friends have anything other than long hair so it stood out. She grew it back again and it's down to her shoulders again now

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 09/03/2020 16:42

It’s hair, it quickly grows back...

I’m an adult nd I’ve had long, short, all colours of the rainbow from a young age. It’s hair it grows back, it’s not permanent

thanks i don't know why i find it so hard, i think because she was bald as a baby for so long and i love her hair. plus it feels like a huge step in her growing up, deciding her own style and individuality (which makes me proud but sad she's no longer my baby iyswim)

i'm not sexist, indeed i encourage her in her sports such as brazilian juijitsu (which we both do, football etc)

we've googled the hair cuts and she loves pixie cuts, so we're going for it at the weekend.

a little girl at my daughter's primary has a pixie and she looks ace. It's actually lovely to see in a sea of long plaits. I hope she loves it and well done for not pushing your preference on your daughter.

GaraMedouar · 10/03/2020 06:59

Good for her, practically every little girl in my DD’s school has long straight hair, including my DD. Ponytail, bunches, plaits every day! A pixie cut would be much quicker Smile and look lovely too.

curlsnotfrizz · 10/03/2020 15:11

gah, she is 8. It's only hair. it will grow again in no time.

One of my DC is similar. Nothing girly pink, recently had her hair cut short. She looks very 'individual' and pretty cool. Just support her.

Tonz · 10/03/2020 15:14

Well done her for wanting something different to the masses of pig tails u always see. Be proud she's an individual being herself instead of trying to blend in. Her hair will grow back.

sunshineANDsweetpeas · 10/03/2020 16:07

My dd decided this about the same age. Refused to wear anything girlie, trousers, baseball caps, trainers and heaven forbid anything had pink on it. She wanted short hair so we went for a really really short bob.

She's now several years older with long hair and back to being girlie again.
