I love their dupe if the Estée Lauder foundation and stocked up heavily at the weekend. It looks and feels the same, although it does come off into clothing unlike the real deal.

I'm wondering about toxins and such things though. I've tried to look but can't find anything. At £5 a bottle it's not going to have the best ingredients that are good for skin long term is it?

I appreciate that the majority of the Estée Lauder cost is marketing NFC and store fronts etc so maybe theirs isn't also that good.

I'm trying to switch over to organic, locally made, fair trade products where possible but this I fear doesn't fit with my ethos.

It's unlikely to contain anything other than the normal range of pigments, preservatives and carrier gloop that is standard with all foundations.

Are there specific compounds you need to avoid?

An ingredients list is possibly discoverable via google, but it would help if we knew what ingredients you wish to avoid

Giving up foundation altogether, and using plain almond oilas a moisturiser might be best, if you wish to avoid preservatives

Daugher of friend is quite high up in Estée Lauder or so she tells me and the have severe stock problems at the moment due to it being made in China. Quite shocked about that tbh, it might not be as good as we all think, just an illusion.

gingersausage · 09/03/2020 10:44

@Alyic I’m surprised that you’re surprised by this.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 09/03/2020 10:48

Me too, it's all much of a muchness.

unluckyagain · 09/03/2020 10:55

Which foundation is this please? May have a look next time I'm in.

MikeUniformMike · 09/03/2020 12:01

It's the MATTE foundation is a square glass bottle. £5.

I've not tried ELDW but I'm not a fan of the dupe - I found it thick and difficult to blend. I much prefer Rimmel Lasting Finish, which is in a similar price range.

ShirleyPhallus · 09/03/2020 12:05

OP there is an app you can use to scan the product and it tells you how skin friendly it is depending on the ingredients, that might be useful?

unluckyagain · 09/03/2020 12:09

Thanks!

I think it'll likely be much the same either way. It almost all comes from the same set of factories, as most things do.

Obviously primark makeup isn't locally made, fair trade, organic etc. Email them for a full ingredients list perhaps, but it will be fairly predictable. I would just Google for brands that are, and try their offerings if you want to make the switch OP.

As an aside, I have tried it and I do think it's really good for £5. Bit much for every day for me personally but I do add a bit into my usual foundation if I want more coverage. The £3 mascara in the gold tube is great, as is the £1 lip liner.

Shoeshelpplease · 09/03/2020 13:33

@ShirleyPhallus that sounds really interesting! Any idea what its called so I can hunt it down?

Thanks all for the replies to date, Im going out for the rest of the day but am going to follow up tonight and will let you know if I find anything.

It is extremely good for £5, exactly the same apart from the rubbing off. No ingrediants I am necessarily avoiding but I am conscious of healthy eating, not having any crap, eating organic etc. The skin is the largest organ so really I want to be avoiding any nasties and I cant think a £5 foundation is any good.

Plus the fair trade argument, air miles …….

I can’t remember what it’s called as my colleague told me about it but there seem to be a few, this one looks good

@ShirleyPhallus that app looks fab, unfortunately it is limited in the products it covers and it doesn't include Primarks range. Great for other things though so thank you.
