High heels dilemma

NKF · 06/09/2007 22:47

I've been invited to a seriously glamorous party. I think I can just about manage the frock but the heels. I've never managed to be able to walk in high heels but flat ones won't look right.

Shall I risk it and just insist on cabs all night and sit down or lean against a wall when I'm there? Or flat shoes and stand on tiptoe? Or just stay home in my pyjamas.

How do you walk in the darned things?

The last time I went to an event like this I felt like Fanny Frump and am determined to do better this time.

try some of those gel cushion things. they help a bit. And practice in your heels before the big event.

rosealbie · 06/09/2007 22:48

How about some glamorous wedges, there are some fab ones around. They are much easier to walk in than thin heels.

NKF · 06/09/2007 22:49

But can wedgies look right in the evening?

Agree - wedges or chunky heels. And practice.

rosealbie · 06/09/2007 22:51

Definately! How about some with a thin wedge as opposed to a more clumpy 'daytime' version? Sorry haven't got any examples or links.

MamaG · 06/09/2007 22:53

NKF defo wedges. What colour is your dress?

NKF · 06/09/2007 22:53

Black of course. Not very original.

How about some silver wedges? Again don't know where from but i'm sure they exist!

hatwoman · 06/09/2007 22:56

get yourself to Clarks. I know that if, like me, you were frog-marched there as a child when you really really really wanted to do to Dolcis that this will take a Damascus road like experience. but have faith in me. They have seriously nice shoes that are seriously comfy. I have a pair of killer red strappy heels from Clarks that I can wear all day - including at standing around events like weddings - with no problem. try a pair on and you will wonder how on earth everyone else seems to manage to make them so un-comfy.

NKF · 06/09/2007 22:58

Thanks Hatwoman. I will do that. And silver wedges. That's a thought. Dare I?

NKF - what size are your feet?

NKF · 06/09/2007 23:07

Huge. Nine. Which doesn't help matters.

hatwoman · 06/09/2007 23:08

oh gawd. now I'm relaly worried that they'll all be horrible and uncomfy...

I went in today for work shoes - mid-heels and very comfy. I can;t say I looked at party shoes but they do normally have very nice ones. definbitely worth a try anyway

NKF · 06/09/2007 23:09

A friend of mine says the trick with uncomfortable shoes is to get really drunk really quickly. Apparently that way you don't notice the pain. But drunk and tottering on high heels is not a good luck.

next usually have a good range of nines, agree wedges are easier to walk in, or what about some kitten heels

NKF · 06/09/2007 23:14

Just looked at the Next website. Lovely stuff. Thank you.

Shoe shopping tomorrow. Choice of two dresses. Still got accessories to think about. Quite enjoying the girly fun of it actually. Thanks for all your help so far. Going to take a look in Next and Clarkes.

nb if dress is truly floor length you may get away with metallic/sparkly/embroidered etc ballet flats
but they will never give you the same posture and walk as heels.

love Lapin's wedges though
