Cleansers v washing face with soap and water.

I washed my make up off at night for years with a fragrance free soap and water, followed by toner and moisturiser. I do the same in the morning.

I was given a fancy cleanser and eye make up remover in a set at Christmas and have been using them since then. I don't see any difference in my skin whatsoever in this time - it's pretty good anyway but certainly no better since using 'proper' cleanser etc. So my question is why it seems to be deemed bad for your skin to just wash make up off your face?

The cleanser did come with some re-useable cotton pads that you wash but even after a short time they are falling apart and would need replacing so I'm not sure that they're much use so there's the waste issue too of using cleansers (for me).

Anyone else find that just soap and water cuts the mustard for them? Is my skin going to just fall off one morning when I'm 70?

@citygirl1961 you can use either, it’s up to you. Yes, it’s designed for sensitive skin (hence the nameGrin), it isn’t fragranced either.

mnthrowaway, thanks I'll give it a try, I always assume all Lush stuff is heavily scented. Will it remove eye make up too?

I use dettol soap bars after removing makeup and my skin is the best it's been in years. Cheap and packed in cardboard too

I can guarantee the Neutrogena bar removes makeup, including waterproof mascara, foundation etc. I use it in the shower, lather up, rinse repeat if necessary (really rare). If I double soap, I'll moisturise afterwards but it's usually not needed.

I reckon using soap on your face for an extended period of time will eventually give you tight skin.

I've been using it for about 40 years. 😂 If I don't moisturise then my skin feels a little tight but was soon as I use toner and my usual moisturiser it's fine again. I think I'll just carry on as before really, the cleanser was fine but I wouldn't buy it again unless it had made a huge difference I suppose. My skin is pretty ok, I don't get spots or patches so I might as well carry on with soap. I don't really like using very perfumed products either.

I have never understood why on earth it would matter that soap is drying, if you put moisturiser on straight away afterwards. Confused
I use something gloopy/creamy to get make-up off (anything the right consistency works - no noticeable difference between cheapo Nivea dark blue bottle and Liz Earle in my experience). Then rinse and wash with soap. Dry. Apply moisturiser. Skin has no time to dry out. I only use a cloth to remove the cleanser once a week, for a bit of light exfoliation.
