Do yummy mummies make you sick ? How the hell do they do it ? Are there any of you out there ? I need to know! Have 3 Dc, youngest only 4 mo, so maybe bein bit hard on self, but keep catchin sight of self in shop windows and wanting to cry! Where did the old me go ?! Have got a good stone of baby weight to shift before can get into old clothes - clothes are just a nightmare anyway ! Why do I still look like a scruffy student when nearly 30? Wud love to look sleek and groomed and feel attractive again, but where do yummy mummies find the time? !

Definately not the people I know then. Just prooves you can look good without having lots of money

morningglory · 07/09/2007 17:21

I, unfortunately, know lots of yummy mummies and they do it with lots of help. All have full-time nannies (even for just one child...more than one nanny if more than one child), ft/pt housekeepers, personal trainers, dieticians, weekly manicure appointments, bi-monthly facials, don't work, and have husbands who are well able to foot the bills. ie, lots of money and help.

sheepgirl · 07/09/2007 17:39

how many of us if we had the money would want to be a yummy mummy....I wouldn't say no to a hair cut more often than 3 times a year!

LOVABUMP · 07/09/2007 17:53

I can understand the need to feel good about yourself but do these people have job satisfaction? Cuddling and playing with your baby far more satisfying than spending six hours a day at the beauticians (although that much peace and quiet once in a while would be bliss) and how many of these women really enjoy that? I bet most of them would love to hop in the car with pjs on and no make up but they have a facade to keep up. I know a few and can't say they seem to be very happy people.

claricebeansmum · 07/09/2007 18:00

I have become more yummy the older the children have become. I don't understand how to be yummy with a toddler but with older children at school 7 hours a day even I can get to the hairdresser!

MrsBadger · 07/09/2007 18:18

easiest way to be yummy is to choose better clothes, not take more time

doesn't take any longer to put on boots, dark jeans and a fitted jacket than it does to put on trainers, saggy tracksuit bottoms and a fleece.

TheDuchess · 07/09/2007 18:40

Hmm. Time saving beauty tips:

Wash and blow dry hair before bed (I have v v curly hair) and use serum.

Clarins complexion perfector.

Good shoes: no trainers.

Introduce self to iron (took me a while post birth to find the iron) OK not really a time saving device but clothes look better.

Lay out clothes the night before: step into them bleary eyed in the morning.

chankins · 07/09/2007 21:09

Okay - I'm dtermined to try - I want to be a nearly yummy mummy! You're right about clothes, if they look good people don't notice the rest so much. Have one really lovely friend who was sickeningly thin just weeks after birth, straight gorgeous hair, great outfits etc, but she manages to be totally great hands on mum - mind you she ony has one kid. Often wonder how she does it. Think maybe she just puts herself first more than I do, while still bein great mum. O and her house clean and tidy too! (There must be something wrong somewhere)

I actually believe that if a mother of three children looks immaculate she aint doing the job properly because how the hell would she have the time and energy.
Or I might just be jealous.

chocabloc · 07/09/2007 21:33

hey super alien! i am apareently a yummy mummy, i think i scrub up ok! im a single mum, and never cook ready meals, fresh food all the way! u just find the time to do it, i have been caught out looking like a tramp, when feeling shitty and couldnt care less how i looked! and ive bumped into many people, oops! never again forgot to brush my teeth once it was embarrasing, tried to keep my distance! lol!

it makes me feel btr if i look good! Im also a student, and i work p/t, if i dont put in the effort then whats the point!es its long onto of the housework, cooking, and all the rest and my ds is nearly 3 but still demanding! do ur nails at night, wahs ur hair at night if u have to! and leave the housework, unless someone is coming round for a veiwing! i get round to it when i can (be bothered) my nails are not allways done, but i try to do them as people allways looka t ur hands, and ill be mostl;y sporting the chipped look thi season! i dont go to the hairdresser, use hair removal cream, do my own nails etc! ooh if i had a partner god knows what id look like! heheh

get sum home equiptment for excercise, trampoline, skipping rope, and use sparingly! xx NAD MOST IMPORTANTLY LOOK YUMMY FOR YOURSELF AND IGNORE THE CELEBS THEY LOOK LIKE THAAT AS THEY CAN AFFORD PEOPLE TO PLUCK THEIR ARMPIT HAIRS AND MOISTURISE THEIR EARLOBES, OHH AND HAVE SURGERY EVERY WEEK! Im hoping for a tummy tuck but cannot afford it! xx oh and im 25

oh and ironing is for losers, clothes decrease rthemselves when u wear them! i despise ironing what a waste of my life, like folding and putting away urs and kids clothes isnt tiresome and the mounds of washing to do! i ran out of dishwasher tabs, and had a mini panic! joke ! but it all helps! and yes i washed my plates but with rubber gloves, which my mum doesnt belive in! only shirts need ironong tahts why i dont wear them! tee hhe

TheDuchess · 07/09/2007 22:00

I think we shall have to agree to disagree on the ironing. I can always spot the non-ironed look. Clothes look much, much better when ironed.

woodyrocks · 07/09/2007 22:45

I manage mummy yummy status less than 7 days per calendar month! I did finally buy an iron a couple of months ago so that is a new phase of my life for sure :p

In all seriousness though I find it is easier to do when I going off to work after dropping DD off. If I am working from home or have a day off then it just doesn't happen.

scattyspice · 08/09/2007 20:00

Agree:

Wash hair, iron clothes, makeup takes 5 mins, wear proper clothes.

Don't need lots of clothes (I have 2 jeans and a skirt few tops and a jacket) just rotate regularly, no-one notices.

chocabloc · 09/09/2007 12:38

what is meant by wearing proper clothes? ironed ? or non stretchy kind hide all

superalienstitch · 09/09/2007 13:33

hmm, everyone seems to have a different definition of yummymummy.
what i do know is that i am much more grooemd now the babies are older. when i had thtee littleies, two in mappies, just keeping the kids clean and well fed was my priority. i reelly couldnt beboteherd to use make up for the school run.
i still can tbe bothered to lay out clothes the night before. because clothes are justnot important to me, the way they are to a lot of people. but ive been told i manage the yummy mummy look mst of the time now.
i think it's al abou grooming and time to myself.

when i had two littlies under 2.5, i remember tkaing an afternoon to do my nails. the entire day was thrown off. complete was of time it was. now i do my nails regularly, and my feet, winter o summer. and use makeup for school. because i like to look good for me.
o, and i think iwould probly havelooked bette had i been a single mom, as i wouoldnt then have to be bothered with dh's eccentricities.

lovey · 15/09/2007 18:51

I too have been called one a couple of times- although i am very lucky to have help, in no way do i let my children have ready meals and alwaysw make sure their needs a put before mine. I have just become very skileld in putting my makeup on in a few minutes!
