Rubbing shoes remedies

I have got the most perfect pair of shoes, perfect in every which way, apart from they rub my heel where the leather finishes at the top.

They are the sort of shoes you dont wear with socks and I wouldnt wear tights or stockings so it is shoe on heel.

I bought them last summer (knowing they rubbed) because I loved them and I have just thought to start wearing them round the house to wear in for this summer but within half an hour I have a blister on my heel.

Any idea as to how I can overcome this? I think its the hard edge rubbing.

I''ll try post a picture.

You can see I've just slipped my foot out and where they have made the blister.

I'm sure this is a very common style of shoe injury I just don't know how best to describe.

You could try wearing those invisible socks that are more like invisible pop socks. Haven't tried them myself.

Compeed make a stick you rub on to avoid blisters (comes in a green plastic case). I think it’s pretty good. Compeed also make small flesh coloured plasters that are unobtrusive but really effective.

Wear them around the house with socks on. Also bash that bit of the heel that is hard with a rolling pin or something similar to soften them. I've had this with several pairs of shoes and trainers.

Use a hair dryer on the heel of the shoe to soften it

Shoeshelpplease · 06/03/2020 18:49

All fantastic tips ThankYou Mumsnet!!!

I'm going to start with the cheapest and most accessible tonight .... hairdryer and move up the ladder of blister treatments. I should have put socks on to wear round the house today but can't now as blister firmly rooted in.

Lipsalve is very effective as a budget version of the compeed stick upthread - it just provides a little lubricant to counter the friction. Though obviously either use your finger or have a sacrificial lipsalve you only use for this purpose.

I use heel shield things in all my new shoes. Alternatively, if you're wearing then round the house to break in then just stick plasters on.

sausagedogpookie · 07/03/2020 01:48

I use these. They stay put really well (never had them come unstuck yet) and prevent/solve the injury you have in the pic! I always put them in the kids’ school shoes too, makes them much comfier. You can position them right up to the inner top edge of the shoe heel, yet they still can’t be seen.

Try bending the leather and massaging it to soften it up. Heel cushions that stick inside the shoe are also a good idea. You can buy gel ones which work really well.

myidentitymycrisis · 07/03/2020 08:37

Dubbin on your new shoes will soften the leather

MrsApplepants · 07/03/2020 12:31

Rub surgical spirit on the skin on your heels with a cotton ball to harden it. Do this every few days. Wait for any existing blisters/cuts to heal first though or it will sting like fuck.

ComeTheFuck0nBridg3t · 07/03/2020 21:52

This sounds odd but has worked previously for me... slip the shoes on and tread the backs down.
The way you’d slip your shoes on when you were younger and get told off by your mum for ruining your shoes!
It seems to soften and stretch them out.
Couple of minutes walking round indoors like that and the next time you wear them they should be fine!

thebestever · 08/03/2020 00:17

You can buy leather stretcher which you spray in. It's about £3 from Timpsons. Fantastic stuff and I have used it many times for just this purpose.

MrsDeltaB · 08/03/2020 00:22

Wow. Just wow. Oh for such a massive problem

TheMemoryLingers · 08/03/2020 00:26

Gel heel pads - similar to the foam ones posted above but don't take up quite so much room, and don't show.

Synecdoche · 08/03/2020 00:29

My mum used to swear by stuffing shoes with potato peelings wrapped in newspaper and leaving overnight.

That or bashing with a hammer.

Welcome to my childhood.

Zombiemum1946 · 08/03/2020 00:35

My dad used leather oil and a hot teaspoon.
