Revlon One-Step... which of the two types do I buy?

LoveNursing · 05/03/2020 23:22

I want to be able to EITHER do a smooth finish OR a curl.

Babyliss big hair allows me to choose - but this seems to require having BOTH brushes, so do people choose with brush they most need - how do you decide?

Talk to me about your and whether you're happy with it!

Just giving this a bump for you, OP (because we want to know the answer) Grin

LoveNursing · 06/03/2020 09:17

These reviews helped!

and

I personally think the paddle brush is a no go, because (it seems) the volumising brush can do either straight or curly, whereas the paddle brush is only straight.

Would like to hear actual users confirm though!

I have the paddle brush! It’s useless on my hair. I had a rip off version of the other version which was amazing...until it caught itself on fire! I’m saving for the real version now. I’m going to give the paddle version away so happy to send it to you if you want it!

LoveNursing · 06/03/2020 09:20

Sorry wrong link.... I then wanted to compare it to my existing babyliss big hair which I sometimes get literally knotted up with!

This is the one I wanted to show you, it compares the two revlon brushes.

Oh just to say I have shoulder length very fine bleached hair. It was prone to frizz but then I had 3 inches chopped off and it’s loads better since.

LoveNursing · 06/03/2020 09:21

@Princessfaffalot thank you so much for your kind offer but it's actually the other one I've decided I'd most likely buy.

Out of interest did you know it was a rip off version? If not, I'm wondering where to avoid buying it!

OP posts:
Princessfaffalot · 06/03/2020 09:39

That’s ok, I’m sure you’ll get on with the other version. Yes I knew it was a rip off, I just wanted to try it out before I bought the real one. It was something like £11 including postage! Boots are selling it for £59.99 and I think amazon are too (but at least you get points with boots!).

LoveNursing · 06/03/2020 15:22

Just bought the amazon one for 20% off (£47).

Be careful though, so many searches come up looking just like revlon but don't actually have the name on the box!

I got the big round brush rather than the paddle brush.

anonymouse · 06/03/2020 16:49

I've got the volumiser brush. The brush itself is very big so not entirely sure how you'd do curls. I can curl it in at the end but not curls like you'd get in a salon with a blow dry. I'm not the best at doing my hair though. It's the reason I bought it and I do get a lovely finish using it and it really doesn't take long.

For the PP saying about saving up- wait until the next boots electrical event. I got mine for £35.

Princessfaffalot · 06/03/2020 18:14

Thank you @anonymouse! Will look out for that x

kmini · 07/03/2020 09:46

I love love love my volumiser brush. Total game changer - I have volume and a proper blow dried hair now. Definitely helps with frizz but you need the heat and resistance on towel dried hair to get the best result. A bit of mousse helps too I find.

LoveNursing · 07/03/2020 12:00

@kmini but you need the heat and resistance on towel dried hair to get the best result.

What heat and resistance?

OP posts:
kmini · 07/03/2020 14:07

Sorry @LoveNursing poorly explained. Hopefully this will explain what I mean.

The first time I used it I had dry hair and was really only brushing the hair from the underside. Ok result but nothing amazing.

2nd time - towel dry wet, still really only brushing from the underside. Maybe used mousse but cant remember. Good result but not amazing.

3rd time, towel dries hair, but this time I suppose i replicated more of a blow drying action. Using resistance to pull the hair into shape. I could actually achieve this with the Revlon unlike if I was blow drying with a roll brush. Great result.

4th time - soaking wet. Good result from harder work.

Look on you tube for good tutorials. It's a great product.

I'm not quite sure what you're asking but I love my Revlon one step and hated my Babyliss big hair. I have thick, frizzy hair that need lots of blow drying ,the one step does it in 5 mins if I rough dry with a hair drier first. It's amazing.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 07/03/2020 14:14

Make sure you use heat protection on your hair before using it!

LoveNursing · 07/03/2020 16:40

@JoMumsnet

Have you experienced babyliss big hair?

If so, can I just say, this is massively better.

Babyliss was great at creating bounce, but didn't get close enough to the scalp to make it sit quite right always and I created frizz that the dyson hairdryer didn't.

I also found babyliss chewed my hair if I accidentally got my angles wrong round the back where I'm more cack-handed.

But this... this leaves me hair so soft it doesn't feel like my hair. It sits it sleek and smooth and not at all frizzy. It creates volume , and volume always creates more bounce but I'd say it's a different bounce to babyliss. It's not as roundy-curly. It's more just smooth and slightly turned ever so gently at the ends.

First impressions are; it's going to be a real game changer. But it's only day one and not even that - I just used it on my dry hair (after a small water fight earlier - don't ask!) and found its smoothed and styled without having to wet my hair properly! That alone is going to be immense in between hair washes.

It's easy to hold, it's easy to use, it's easier than hairdryer and brush and definitely easier than babyliss big hair.

So so pleased, so far!

kmini · 07/03/2020 17:39

I agree RE BBH. It would chew my hair often and I would also be fighting existing frizz from when I blow dried it which made it overall harder work.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 07/03/2020 17:42

Yay,glad you like it,it's so much better than BBBH, isn't it?

Make sure you rough dry first with a hairdryer as it gets too hot to do from wet if you're going to use it a lot. And heat protection, you MUST use heat protection.

Honestly,it's the best thing I've bought in years.

RapidRainbow · 07/03/2020 18:58

Just to say, use L'Oréal Fibrology in shower treatment for the thickest fullest hair with your Remington 1 step. I use babyliss for shape and Remington for smooth.

LoveNursing · 07/03/2020 21:31

Funnily enough I did think it might be worth having both, maybe even using both on the same day for different properties! Will have to see how it goes. Can really feel now the holding of the Revlon is so much easier though, it's a really good design.

OP posts:
PenelopeFlintstone · 07/03/2020 21:42

Wow - on Australian ebay, they all look fake except one. They only have the black and pink one too.

ShortAndSharp · 07/03/2020 22:53

I hope you don't mind me jumping in on your post... I have the Revlon one and I LOVE it! However, does anyone have any idea of the best way to give it a really good clean, as it obviously can't be washed like a regular brush!?

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 08/03/2020 01:02

I just pick the hair out every few days.
