The Ordinary Skincare - any good?

I'm late 40's and have had crap skin since my teens. It is dry and oily and I get acne around chin and forehead. I have tried EVERY skincare option there is at this stage and none of them really work. At the moment I'm using La Roche Posay and it's ok but not great.

I saw The Ordinary range recently and wondered if anyone has used it and if they found it any good?

I'm interested in the moisturiser and the blemish serum and the hyralaunic acid specifically.

All feedback is very welcome. My skins really gets me down...Sad

Yes the moisterizer is good, I use the natural moisturising factors + HA. I find it absorbs really quickly and non greasy but my skin is on the dry side.
Don't like their HA, makes my skin feel very tight. Another company in the Deciem group called NIOD do a fantastic HA, I really love it.
Other products of the Ordinary I like is the Vit C 23%. Really does give my skin a glow and also their caffeine solution which I put on around my eyes if I wake up and look puffy

Could your skin be dehydrated rather than dry? Just watched Caroline Huron's on the morning talking about cleaners and she explains the different. Had no ideaConfused

I started using the Niacinamide and Zinc thing about a fortnight ago. I use it once a day under my day moisturiser. Whilst it hasn't reduced spots (I get cystic ones on my chin mainly and haven't had spot free skin since I was 14 - now in my early 30s) my skin texture is much smoother. I didn't think it would do anything but it is really noticeable. I had some milia and redness on my cheeks too and this is much improved.
I would suggest you try it - just a few quid.
I have the moisturiser to start trying next week too.

I like their acids for exfoliation, both the Glycolic and Lactic ones are very good. Their Squalene Cleanser is also great at removing makeup and used as a first cleanse. I didn't get on with their moisturiser but everybody's skin is different.

Thanks! I have bought a serum for blemishes and the hyralaunic acid one and the moisturiser. Will see how I get on with them.

They are so inexpensive compared to other brands! I REALLY hope they work!

If your getting acne see your doctor. Unless you live on white sugar and never wash it’s a medical condition.

Your body has a bacterial infection it can’t deal with.

damnthatanxiety · 05/03/2020 20:40

you get what you pay for. It's a bit meh

I started using a bunch of products a few months ago. I’m 36, have had acne-prone, oily skin since my teens, and recently started getting lots of closed comedones that made my skin feel all rough and horrible. I also have a few dry patches.

I’ve been using buffet, hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, moisturising factors (just a little bit on my cheeks) (in that order) in the AM and buffet in the evenings. I’m also using the BHA/AHA peel twice a week, and Paula’s Choice benzoyl peroxide cream on the nights I don’t use a peel.

It’s taken a couple of months but my skin is much, much better. It looks brighter and healthier somehow, and the closed comedones have really cleared up. It’s not perfect but I like the products a lot.

HermioneWeasley · 05/03/2020 21:22

I love their glycolic acid and niacinimide

ploddingdonkey · 05/03/2020 21:45

I asked them for a routine and within a month saw a big change in my skin. I used to use Elemis and recently stopped because it wasn't actually improving my skin at all, for the first time since my twenties my skin is good enough to go makeup free.

Tried the caffeine for eyes and did nothing at all.

Monty27 · 06/03/2020 00:36

I've got buffet
Retenoids and rose hip.
I find it a science 🙄 they have to be used in a sequence as listed and application is tricky. (Messy somehow) and a palaver getting the sequence right.
Trying to keep with it and always feel a bit better about my skin the next day.
Miniscule amounts are required so I don't find that it's been expensive.
We'll see. I just got it at Christmas.
I'm not sure yet.

@Fluffycloudland77 I will be 50 this year and as I said in my opening post I have had bad skin since I was about 13. I have been to countless doctors and have spent years of my life on hormone treatment - the pill but only taken for my skin and many many many months on antibiotics over countless years. It clears things for a while but not permenantly and I now no longer want to take antibiotics for it as they make me feel horrible in lots of other ways. But thanks for your comment.

I had a fairly big breakout on my chin and it was spreading to my cheeks over the past 2 weeks or so. Nothing was working for me.

I started using the 2 serums and the moisturiser 2 days ago and already I see a huge difference. The breakout is clearing up but more than that the texture of my skin is different. It used to feel constantly oily but dry and flaky and my makeup would melt off very quickly. It no longer feels like that. I am genuinely amazed as I have tried every product under the sun and have spent FORTUNES on them

I have entire ranges of clinique, dermalogicia, La Roche Posay, Estee Lauder, Elemis etc etc and n one of them have really worked.

I'm happy so far. They were out of cleanser so might go back next week and get that.

The Inkey List is also good and value for money (for those that aren’t impressed with the Ordinary)

molemonkey · 06/03/2020 17:11

I've just bought the lactic acid 5% do you just apply and leave or do you wash it off I'm a little confused and the website didnt really make it any clearer

fairyfingers · 06/03/2020 18:02

I've tried quite a bit and didn't really see a difference and it made my skin feel a bit dirty

LightOfAThousandStars · 06/03/2020 21:30

@molemonkey You leave the lactic acid on your skin just like a toner after you've cleansed your skin. You can put serum or moisturiser over the top of it once dry as well. It's really one of the key products from their range that has made a huge difference to the appearance of my skin, it's helping fade old spot marks and uneven skintone.

LightOfAThousandStars · 06/03/2020 21:35

@molemonkey Lactic Acid should be used at night and wear sunscreen during the day especially when having acids in your skincare routine.

baubled · 07/03/2020 07:15

It's working well for me- I follow this page on Facebook which has lots of information. You can also email their parent company Deciem to ask for a personalised regime.
