Does anyone actually manage to successfully cover these? Dye won't take to mine. I'm trying permanent brown dyes.

Nope. I've developed an allergy to contact dye so was spending a fortune on high / low lights which didnt cover them just meant I had silver strands in the high / low lights. Hair is naturally dark.

It's liberating.

Yes I have a very stubborn patch of grey and it is very resistant to dye but I still manage to cover them successfully but I don't do the colour myself.

What kind of colour are you using?

FilledSoda · 05/03/2020 14:42

It's a losing battle and honestly what's the point ?
Grey hair can be beautiful, it's certainly more attractive than a block colour of brown dye with ever emerging white roots.

You could pre-treat them with hydrogen peroxide 9%? That helps open the hair cuticles.

I use the Clairol Age Defy hair colour, the pre-treatment definitely helps the dye adhere better. A cap to intensify the heat also helps.

Professional level hair colour works better than box, I've heard of majirel but never used myself.

Nope! I've tried everything, as has my hairdresser! 10 days /2 weeks is the longest I get! I use A LOT of cover up spray!

damnthatanxiety · 05/03/2020 20:30

OP are you doing it yourself or is a professional doing it? Hairdressers get a much better result.

@FilledSoda not everyone wants to have grey hair and most of the “beautiful” grey hair you see is actually or toned anyway.
