Adding body to fine hair?

My hair is shoulder length fine but a lot of it ( as the hairdresser says). Any idea on how to give it body, it’s poker straight? I’ve tried heated rollers and Velcro, it tends to drop out quickly .Is there a product I can use that might help?

Sounds like my hair, I use bumble and bumble thickening spray and Babyliss big hair rotating hot air styler .

Toni & Guy Sky High Volume dry shampoo. It's in a beige bottle and you can get it on amazon for about six quid.

It's been a total game changer for me. Smells amazing and gives my hair a lift that genuinely lasts for a couple of days.

I have really fine hair and I've tried loads of things on it. The best by far is a serum called Swell. You put it on (not much of it) when your hair is wet/damp. It really works. i got mine in an M&S Beauty Box, but I will definitely buy it when it runs out. It lasts ages - maybe look on ebay for a mini as a full size will last ages and ages.

There's a thread currently on S&B about products people WOULDN'T recommend, includes posts about volume hair products....might be worth looking at that before spending £££s.

Personally I've only found either Nioxin or Nanogen root volume sprays to work ('medicinal' brands if you like...). They're not heavily marketed or remotely glamorous!

CremeDeSudo · 04/03/2020 15:10

I've got similar hair and recently bought the John Frieda range for fine hair. Wouldn't recommend! It doesn't seem to give it body and I feel like it needs washing more frequently!

Comb your hair the "wrong" way when you've finished shampooing and conditioning it (while still in the shower). This gives me day-long volume. I can also recommend Tigi Small Talk thickener just scrunched into damp hair and left to air dry. I find heat styled hair drops flat in a matter of hours so I no longer bother.

FruityWidow · 04/03/2020 20:17

Any old mousse at the roots when it's wet and blow dry upside down.

Pandamoore · 04/03/2020 20:20

Same. I find batiste dry shampoo is the best bet. The volumising ones do that little extra too for a night out. Thickening sprays and shampoos have limited use. And obviously mouse tends to weigh it down so avoid.

I dry my hair upside down too...not sure if that helps or it is just habit lol.

GrockleRock · 04/03/2020 20:21

@outofyourhand the dry shampoo is £5.50 in Boots at the moment.

I might try it, does it make the hair knotty? I tried a root powder once and it matted my hair Shock

Vinorosso74 · 04/03/2020 20:21

I've recently started using mousse and it does help with body. My favourite shampoo at the moment is OGX Biotin and Collagen-Boots sell a travel/trial size; I don't like the conditioner though.

Wavingwhiledrowning · 04/03/2020 20:25

My hair sounds the same. Takes forever to colour at the hairdressers because there's apparently a lot of it, but it looks like I have barely any.
My go-to thing is Luxurious Volume Thickening spray by John Frieda. I honestly don't know what I'd do without it. I've tried the associated shampoos though, and they don't make any difference.

outofyourhand · 04/03/2020 20:28

@GrockleRock No it doesn't knot my hair in the slightest. It just leaves it really bouncy and it smells lovely. And as it's dry shampoo it means I can get away with washing my hair once every four days.

Avoid the one in the turquoise bottle, though. That is a 'matt texture' finish and very weird Hmm

bobstersmum · 04/03/2020 20:38

Batiste xxl volume spray, its amazing.

GrockleRock · 04/03/2020 20:39

Thank you outofyourhand I'm washing mine at least once a day (due to work) If I have to shower morning & evening, I wash It twice a day.

I had a week off work and left my hair to see when it would need washing, it looks greasy by day 2.

Its fine but limp and probably quite dry as I have it bleached lovely highlights Grin

Pandamoore · 04/03/2020 23:06

I think once you start washing it every day, you end up needing to wash it that much. You should try power through 3 or 4 days or so (use dry shampoo) without washing it. And after a couple of times doing that you'll find it needs washed less :) When fine hair goes greasy it seems even flatter unfortunately.

Tempnamelady · 05/03/2020 20:02

All good tips thanks!
