Face powders

I never thought I needed to pay much for a powder so have always gone fairly cheap but decided that it's not blotting my face enough. What face powders does you recommend for getting rid of shine? Do I need loose or pressed? I never know!

i’ve always used maxfactor’s creme puff. it smells a little ‘old lady-ish’ but it’s the only face power i’ve ever used that doesn’t make me look cakey and doesn’t need reapplying throughout the day.

Fenty beauty loose powder is lovely

At beginning of day spray setting spray over face, powder over and will be shine free until at least lunchtime

I like the Fenty one too. Not cheap but you get a lot and it lasts well.

Bare Minerals. It is lovely and a little goes a long way.

Creme Puff here too. The translucent one. Smells of my nan, but I've no problem with that!

One powder wonder from Beauty Pie is fantastic. No faffing getting the right shade and it keeps me shine free all day.

Lamplighter234 · 28/02/2020 18:41

I use the max factor creme puff too, I apply it with a brush so it’s not too cakey.

LilyJade · 28/02/2020 18:45

First you need an anti shine primer under your make up, then if you're wearing foundation choose oil free.

I recommend Clinique stay-matte oil-free sheer pressed powder.

Laura Mercier translucent pressed setting powder

I like Glossier wowder and the NARS loose powder

A Collection 2000 one. Cheap as chips but very effective. Not at all cakey even on my ancient face. Smile

Laura Mercier transclucent setting powder.
Innisfree no sebum powder.
Etude house zero sebum powder.
Too faced peach setting powder.
Elf HD setting powder.
Bare minerals mineral veil setting powder.
Maybelline fit me matte and poreless powder (pressed and loose).
Mac skinfinish natural powder.

I own all of these and love them all!
Although I have dehydrated skin with rosacea, I hydrate my skin well enough with serums, essences, oils, moisturisers and hydrating primers/foundations that I can wear a setting powder over my foundation, then lightly dust a finishing powder over it - and not look cakey, dry and dusty with fine lines showing.

I hate a tacky feeling on my face and powder my eyebrows and eyelids too.
My brows and eye make up does not budge all day long.

I have found the perfect brushes to use (real techniques and spectrum) that are light and fluffy, so do not irritate my skin and have the lightest touch.
I apply the setting powder with my damp beauty sponge, adding extra moisture and ensuring the powder melts into the skin.

Pores disappear, shine fades and the skin looks and feels like velvet.
I'm a powder addict!

Nars translucent powder is my go to.

DippyAvocado · 29/02/2020 09:16

i’ve always used maxfactor’s creme puff.

Me too. I originally used it because it reminded me of watching my Grandma do her makeup (not sure why I wanted to replicate her look!) but 25 years on, having tried several alternatives, I still find it the best. It creates a smooth finish without looking cakey.
