Brands or individual models

Brooks but I imagine everyone here will answer differently. It’s not about style it’s about which trainers suit your feet!

humsnet · 26/02/2020 22:40

If your trainers are actually going to be training, you can’t go by brand. You’ll need a gait analysis at a specialist running store, and buy accordingly. Don’t be surprised if their recommendations are fugly. I am in London and go to Run & Become. Recommend them highly but there’s usually a massive queue so don’t turn up speculatively.

I over-pronate and wear Mizuno, but agree with above posts about getting your gait assessed.

BoogleMcGroogle · 27/02/2020 06:50

I went to a local branch of Runners World for an analysis. They were very knowledgable and I ended up with a pair of Brooks trainers and my plantar facitus has vanished 🙂

Divebar · 27/02/2020 06:53

I wear orthotics and have wide feet and have Brooks.

Saucony. Their Everun for summer and Peregrine for trail and winter. As soon as I tried them on they fitted beautifully.

You just need to try a few different brands.

Zinnia · 27/02/2020 08:29

Saucony also, after gait analysis at Run & Become - so what @humsnet said, basically. They are excellent.

Bubski2020 · 27/02/2020 09:12

I wear Mizuno - last pair I got 2 marathons out of them plus all the training runs so very hard wearing.

used to be a fan of brooks but the last few pairs I got wore extremely quickly, would have to replace at the 6 month mark but I was doing quite a bit of running so maybe if it were lighter running they would last longer. I just found they frayed at the edges and the sole came apart!

devildeepbluesea · 27/02/2020 09:15

Saucony, again after gait analysis.

Viviene · 27/02/2020 09:15

I like Asics, Mizuno and New Balance, I always have two pairs and alternate - currently training to do 1/2 marathon.

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 27/02/2020 09:20

Saucony here (overpronator). I used to wear Asics but I mainly find the cut too narrow these days.

In phases when I am running longer distances, I often have 2+ pairs on the go and use them in rotation. I find they last longer if given time to recover a bit between outings.

MikeUniformMike · 27/02/2020 09:22

Saucony. I also like Asics Cumulus and Mizuno.
The Sauconys seem to last really well, way beyond the usual 3 months or so of training regularly.

Agree with pp about gait analysis. It doesn't cost anything, you don't have to buy the recommended shoes, and it will save you from buying unsuitable shoes and possible injury.

Don't wear your running shoes in the gym or as normal shoes, and don't put them in the washing machine.

You will probably be advised to go up a half size. Some brands have different width fittings.

paap1975 · 27/02/2020 09:48

You really need to see a specialist for running shoes.Shoes which are right for me could be really damaging for you. Do not take anyone's recommendation other than an expert's

Ellapaella · 27/02/2020 16:13

Nike. But Nike are the only brand of trainers that are wide enough for my feet without being too long.
