Are jeans a no go area for the larger lady?

In my younger thinner days I used to live in jeans ad had dressy pairs, casual pairs and everything in between. I am now size 18/20 and can't find any I like. Ones with stretch just fall down every time I bend or stand up and I can't find any that don't look gross over my belly. I love jeans please tell me I just haven't found the right pair.

I think all sizes have that problem with the stretch ones, the answer is simple - wear a belt!

lailasmum · 05/09/2007 16:59

I think as long as an item of clothing is correctly sized then nothing is a no go area. Realistically things only look bad if they don't fit properly. Lots of women buy clothes that are the wrong size and try to squeeze into them but then they are not flattering. if you take the time to find the right pair of jeans they will be fine.

I have always had the concern that doing a belt up tight enough to keep my jeans up will only make my belly bulge over the top of it (more than it does normally).

But surely just don't do the belt up so tightly, just enough to keep the jeans up

I am a 14 but apple shaped so my stretch jeans always fall down, belt is the only way

I'm in the same boat. I wear cheap ones from M&S because they fit but as you say they don't stay up. I like the shape of the boot cut ones but I have to wear a belt which isn't always comfortable.

I hope the fashion shifts to those that sit on the waist so they don't slide down so easily.

CountessDracula · 05/09/2007 17:04

ooh you could try gap

I bought some in there the other week, they said lo-rise but they came up to under my armpits virtually!!!

CountessDracula · 05/09/2007 17:05

(are not high-waisted jeans all the rage suddenly??)

Niecie · 05/09/2007 17:07

I have heard that Gap are good. Some magazine article somewhere on jeans to fit all sizes. Definitely need them to go up passed where I go in so that they sit above my hips not on them then the belt isn't an issue.

The show my knickers and my knees (if I'm not careful or holding Ds when I stand up) pair I've got are from Dorothy Ps. I think high waisted jeans are in fashion but can you get them in my size ?

I got a pair of high waisted jeans in New Look the other day, they are really nice. they are size 16 but I have to wear a belt with them.

CountessDracula · 05/09/2007 17:13

ooh how about monsoon they go up to quite big sizes

Rantmum · 05/09/2007 17:15

Doesn't sound like size is the problem, it is your shape - you need good solid child bearing hips like mine . Jeans say up, only problem is they make my rear look even wider than it is

Rantmum · 05/09/2007 17:15

Jeans stay up I mean....

CountessDracula · 05/09/2007 17:16

My favorites are from River Island atm
they go up to an 18 I belive

Niecie · 05/09/2007 20:19

Rantmum - I do have child bearing hips and they are my downfall and my trousers' downfall too. Hipsters/low-rise trousers sit on the widest part of my hips so there is nothing to stop them slipping down. The higher waist ones sit where my waist starts to go in so they can't come down as the waist band won't go over my hips.

Sounds like my time has come again and higher waist trousers are back - hooray!
