65 and VERY wrinkly!

I had a very early menopause (44) so due to the lack of oestrogen I am very wrinkly. I am used to it and actually the new wrinkles seemed to have slowed down so all my friends are now catching up with me!
The problem is that my skin has recently become much drier and dull; can anyone recommend a really good moisturiser and /or serum to perk it up?
I've tried the mid price ones but end up giving them to my 40 year old daughter!
I'm loath to try the expensive ones - how can I know if they'll work? I don't mind spending £40 - £60 if it works but none of these brands give samples any more.
Any recommendations would be appreciated.

I am 57 and have pretty much no wrinkles at all. I have used Clarins moisturiser for may years, changing the one I use over time to suit my age/skin type. I currently use this one. It costs £75 but it lasts a long time. I think it sinks in well, smells lovely and has SPF 20 which helps keep wrinkles at bay.

I don't think that link worked. It is the Super Restorative Day Cream SPF20 - All Skin Types.

Thanks @Apolloanddaphne I will have a look at that.

Whatever moisturiser you use, put hyaluronic acid underneath as this will add extra moisture and plump up the skin.

The Hadalabo one is excellent and very good value. You can buy from Amazon.

Have you thought about trying the ordinary retinol serums? They go up to 5% retinol.

MoltonSilver · 26/02/2020 15:02

I think what you probably need is a skincare routine rather an a moisturiser.
This article is old but it's a pretty comprehensive explanation of skincare routines.

Thanks all, I'll look at everything you've suggested

I'm older than most here I reckon. Have a few wrinkles and frownie things between my eybrows, but no forehead lines AT ALL. Don't know how that is.

Anyway, I just use Nivea Soft. It is amazing for moisturising without that heavy dead feeling on your face. I've lots of broken veins from sun and snow but I don't care. Cover that up with BB cream when going out.

Gotta be happy in your skin. Nothing really helps apart from a big smile, decent teeth and a good hairdo.

Oh and when I think of it a sunscreen incorporated into the BB cream or whatever going outdoors. I am constantly looking for a sunscreen that is light and wearable. Any suggestions. Thanks all.

@MoltonSilver thanks for that article by Carolyn Hirons, she led me to the Hada Labo that @LifeInAHamsterWheel recommended. I've just bought the cleanser, eye cream and hydrochloric acid serum for under £45! Thank you!

Beauty Pie moisturisers are good but it’s subscription based.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 26/02/2020 19:03

Don't forget diet too OP, cut down on sugars & booze and up your water intake (wish I could follow my own advice!!)

Justkeeprollingalong · 26/02/2020 19:40

I usually drink about 2 litres of water a day @LifeInAHamsterWheel and very little sugar. Can we not mention booze.... 🤦🏻‍♀️

We lose 30% of our skins collagen at menopause, I’d focus on stimulating collagen with a red light led mask & limiting things that decrease collagen like sugar, alcohol, sunlight and smoking.

A lot of moisturisers are just water and glycerin endlessly re-hashed into different packaging.
