Piercing aftercare

It seems to have changed so much since I last had a piercing. No salt baths, no surgical spirit, no turning it or touching it at all Confused. I've got a stericlens spray to use twice each day and that's it.

Seriously, do piercings need such little aftercare these days?

I used a warm saline soak- drenching a cotton wool ball and using that to soak off any sticky stuff. But no, no surgical spirit or twisting.
I have had a daith, a helix and upper lobe piercing done In the last few years.

I've got a few piercings...the most recent one is my nose which I got about two years ago, I was advised to use salt water as usual. I do try not to touch them at all while healing, so wouldn't twist them, and definitely wouldn't use surgical spirit (it's way too strong!)

I'm thinking about getting a helix piercing soon, any idea why the advice re. salt water has changed? Confused

I think it's the same idea as a wound - so leave it alone type thing! Like if you kept picking a scab it scars or takes ages to heal whereas if you just leave it, it heals
Same with tattoos, I've always just washed mine with a mild soap, used a bit of lotion/cream and left them and they heal brilliantly

Yes, agree with ClientQueen. - gave both piercing and tatt’ no more than a wash with antibacterial soap and used cocoanut oil to moisturise my tattoo (tattooist’s advice). No problems.

Leave it alone, no fiddling at all and it'll heal quicker.

I was told to just squirt this saline spray on it twice a day, no bathing in salt water. She did say to wipe away any dried bits so I suppose use a cotton bud or something?
