I need help Sad I have an interview next Wednesday for a job I really want. It would be a promotion and I would be at a senior level (it's NHS).

Unfortunately, I am am very overweight. I'm 36, 5'8" and a size 20. Please help me find something that won't make me look like a lazy frump.

Thank you guys, you're very kind! I will look at wrap dresses!

FrancesFlute · 25/02/2020 16:09

Your hair is beautiful.

Psychologika · 25/02/2020 17:11

You're all very lovely Blush

What shoes would best go with a wrap dress?

Deathraystare · 25/02/2020 17:31

I am an 18-20. Probably more of a 20 as at the moment I seem to be using my body as a food dumping ground!

I normally buy from Next, M&S and Debenhams for suits and other work wear.

Muckycat · 25/02/2020 19:35

Any shoes really- depending on length, ankle or knee boots, heels, good quality flats.

thickwoollytights · 25/02/2020 19:38

Wow! You're gorgeous. I really really wouldn't stress about what to wear. You'll blow them away before you even open your mouth to speak Thanks

bedtimebrew · 25/02/2020 20:46

Tory - not sure what the size is called but it's the largest size they do in the extended sizes ranges

bedtimebrew · 25/02/2020 20:56

You're lovely OP. From the username is a psychology position?

I interview for psychology jobs and to be honest I care much more about the person than how they're dressed so I wouldn't worry too much. For my job I wore a black dress from Roman origins but I think a fitted midi wrap would look amazing on you.

Something like this joanieclothing.com/diane-star-scallop-long-sleeve-wrap-dress.html

In this weather I would wear tights and boots with it

ShesCurly · 25/02/2020 21:05

I'm late to the party OP but fucking hell, you are BEAUT! Those freckles! Gorgeous. We have matching hair so I'm biased but it deserves a standing ovation 👏

Psychologika · 26/02/2020 12:19

I'm honestly blown away by how lovely you've all been. Given me a huge confidence boost (might even have something in my eye...!)

Love your freckles! Gorgeous.

BestIsWest · 26/02/2020 19:36

You are gorgeous. Beautiful skin and hair and that dress is fab on you.

shiningstar2 · 26/02/2020 19:44

You are lovely. My daughter, in her 40s is 5ft 7 and a size 22. She has just landed the job of her dreams. She wore a fit and flare dress, on the knee, with a structured jacket. I think a proper 'interview' jacket is far more flattering than a cardigan type jacket and looks businesslike. If you have time try on/send for more than one size in a range of styles. Hers is black and added a 'slimming' effect to the dress. Good luck. Go girl. You will be fine. Flowers

sonjadog · 26/02/2020 20:43

I am the same size as you but a few inches shorter and I both interviewed and got a job a couple of years ago at this size! I wore a black dress I already have that I felt comfortable in. It is knee length, skater style but with a fuller skirt and 3/4 sleeves. With it I wore black tights and ankle boots. I wore a smart cardigan over the top as I didn't have a jacket, but a jacket would probably have been better.

If I were you, I would start off trying any suitable dress in your wardrobe and see if it is suitable. Better to wear something you know and are comfortable in than something new and untested, I reckon. Then you can buy some other bits to smarten it up if you need to.

PsychologikaChecking back on old threads I was watching, instead of tidying my house, and wondered did you get the job ?
I hope you did.

Livingthecovidaloca · 03/06/2020 16:26

Have just looked at the DvF page, even with 40% off the dresses are quite speedy. However, I’ve discovered they have a really cool feature where you can create an avatar with your height, size, body shape etc, and you can see how different styles would fit you. Might help give some extra ideas for dressing your shape.

andannabegins · 03/06/2020 16:48

I know this is an old thread but just wanted to pop on to say that when I saw those pictures my first thought was 'god you are gorgeous'

LadyEloise · 03/06/2020 18:06

I hope @Psychologika comes back and tells us she was successful.

SuperEkstra · 03/06/2020 18:20

I’ve named changed but thank you again! You’re all lovely! I withdrew my application as I decided that I wanted to wait for something closer to home - hopefully have another interview coming up!

WeightGate · 03/06/2020 18:26

Just popping on to say you look lovely OP. Good luck with the interview.

JamieFraserskneewarmer · 03/06/2020 18:30

I got this recently and it does the job if you need something for the next interview! dress Easy to wear and accessorise

MummaGiles · 03/06/2020 18:31

My go-to for work dresses is Phase Eight. I am a similar size to you. Their dresses go up to size 18 but they also have a plus size (ugh) brand called Studio 8. Might be worth a look?

caramac04 · 03/06/2020 18:39

You look gorgeous in that dress OP and you are beautiful. You don’t look pregnant in the dress and the style suits you. I am a complete troll at style and beauty and dress like a slob. However, I can appreciate when someone looks good.
Good luck with the interview and let us know how you get on 😃

brakethree · 03/06/2020 18:46

I think shift dress is always useful and would suit you - slightly fitted but no belt. Next have this in black or navy. Dress it up with a jacket and/or scarf:

TheTroutofNoCraic · 03/06/2020 18:46

You've already had lots of really good suggestions, so I really just stopped by to say that you are utterly gorgeous.

Just wear something you feel comfortable in, don't mask that beautiful skin in a lot of make up and flash them your fabulous smile. All the best in your interview!!
