Spotty chin making me miserable

MrsTumbletap · 22/02/2020 17:13

I am 37 and used to have great skin.

Over the last 2 years I have had a surge of spots on my chin and around my mouth and I don't know why, some have said its hormones nurse at my GP said changing contraception may help and it's made no difference.

What can I do? Cleansing and toning and clay masks make no difference. Cleaning and covering in sudocrem makes no difference. Blasting it with my laser hair remover makes no difference.

Dalacin T antibiotic lotion worked for me.

Beautiful3 · 24/02/2020 05:10

Switch to a copper coil. No hormones.

RiojaHaze · 24/02/2020 06:52

@MrsTumbletap not massively but i think it does reduce their lifespan by a few days.

If anyone has any good ways of getting rid of the red scarring I'm left with all over my chin I'd be really pleased to try some!

funday · 24/02/2020 07:18

I had something similar, cystic type spots along my jawline and I hadn't had spots since I was a teenager. I bought a salicylic acid soap (pink one) off of Amazon. They have completely disappeared!

HelpIHaveNothingToWear · 24/02/2020 07:24

Hey, Sorry you’re suffering with this. I am now in my mid thirties and get a few spots like this too! What REALLY helps mine is leaving them the fuck alone! I know it’s very hard but I find they “spread” less this way. Do you squeeze then?

Also, what do you find the best way of covering them for work? Am always looking for tips there...

Good luck and yeah, I feel your pain!

Fluffycloudland77 · 24/02/2020 07:37

@MrsTumbletap

You don’t need a dermatologist straight away, why don’t you see your dr and use what they offer?. If that doesn’t work and your acne is resistant to standard prescription cures then they can refer you to dermatology.

Acne’s a medical condition, all of these over the counter treatments is like buying a dress as a cure for toothache.

This stuff is amazing for scarring. I had left over from a biopsy & skin growth removal that got badly infected & left me with an almost black 10p size scar on my lower leg, that twice had me asked by perfect strangers if it was a bullet wound nosey wankers

2 months of this twice a day it's not only shrank it, it's now only a shade or 2 darker than the rest of my leg. Used it elsewhere too & it's amazing... TMC Scar & Acne Removal Cream

StarUtopia · 24/02/2020 10:22

Just got to the Dr and start from there. They will only refer you to a dermatologist once all of their solutions have been exhausted (believe me, I tried them all!)

I don't believe these are 'make up' based or fixed with just a different posh cream. Fixing acne comes from within and without wanting to be mean, your picture shows it's not just your chin.

I had awful acne for years and the only thing that cleared it up was Roaccutane. You wouldn't believe now I had ever had acne. I actually have beautiful skin that people compliment me on (people who didn't know me when I had acne) which is mind-blowing to me.

Doctor will probably start you off on Zineryt which is a roll on topical liquid. Good luck but please see a professional. You're wasting your money buying potions and lotions (and eating dairy has fuck all to do with acne!!!)

Snog · 24/02/2020 10:25

The dermaflannel from Bravura London was a game changer for both me and my BF.

I had hormonal chin spots for years before I discovered this and my BF even worse than me.

Fluffycloudland77 · 24/02/2020 10:31

@StarUtopia

I took roaccutane as well. Best drug ever!.

I’m allergic to dairy and still went from drug resistant persistent acne to cystic 😪.

Hepsibar · 24/02/2020 10:49

Have you tried manuca honey?

LadyMadderRose · 24/02/2020 12:40

Another recommendation for Duac on prescription here. I've had terrible spots since I was 13, now menopausal and still spotty - or would be if I didn't use it. The first time they gave it to me, I didn't have high hopes as nothing had ever worked. 2 weeks later - all spots gone. For me doesn't so much get rid of existing spots, it just stops me getting them.

SophieLion · 24/02/2020 15:29

Hi MrsTumbleTap, I started getting adult acne focused mainly on my chin. I tended to get those large, painful under the surface spots though. Your spots look different.

My dermatologist went through every product I was putting on my face and banned a lot of them because they were clogging my pores. Perhaps you need to check what you're using. I had to cut out all moisturisers, for eg.

She also started me on tretinoin and azelaic acid (neither her nor I wanted me to take oral medication). The tretinoin does take a few months to work and it did get worse before it got better but now my skin is great. I'm overseas so accessing a derm is much easier here and I can buy tretinoin over the counter. I know it's difficult in the UK.

SophieLion · 24/02/2020 15:30

I forgot to add that I hope you find a solution soon. I know how much spots can get you down.

MrsTumbletap · 24/02/2020 18:31

I have started with this, and seeing a dermatologist is the next plan.

Agree spots on your chin are likely to be hormonal - I sometimes get them bad when I'm off birth control. I would see a dermatologist if you can afford it. If not, things that have semi worked for me in the last have been LRP effaclar and Kate Somerville spot treatment (neither are miracle cures, but seem to make them less red and angry at least)

managedmis · 24/02/2020 20:26

Have you recently changed shampoo?

OrangeBuddha · 24/02/2020 21:09

@MrsTumbletap - dint skip the toner. That's perhaps the key product in the effaclar combo.

See my link earlier.

MrsTumbletap · 24/02/2020 22:04

@OrangeBuddha ah balls yes I missed that bit. Ok it's currently 3 for 2 in boots so I got 2 of the duo+ stuff, so I will take one back and change it for the toner.

Do you apply that with a cotton wool pad?

OP posts:
MrsTumbletap · 24/02/2020 22:13

@StarUtopia i feel that about dairy too, I barely drink enough of the stuff for it to effect me, a teeny splash in one coffee a day that I have done for years I can't see being the issue.

I believe it all started with the coil, I had lovely skin, had the coil in, hairs started growing on my chin, dark ones, my skin became greasy, my hair became greasy, I even got spots on my chest and a few on my back. I have never had a spot on my back in my life.

I had the coil removed, spots seemed to calm down. But don't want to get pregnant so went on the pill and the spots are back. So now I think do I stay on the pill a while longer and let my hormones calm down, or come off the pill, but then what? I don't want another child.

I honestly had lovely skin two years ago, I would get one teeny spot a month, if that. Now my face is a shit storm, it's really bad today too.

So I have decided I'm trying this Duo stuff for a week or two and then going to see a doctor first before a dermatologist. I don't want to take tablets so it will have to be topical based stuff, look how many different things are recommended on here, there must be 10-15 different things people have tried. Shock

drivingtofrance · 24/02/2020 22:26

It's intersting that the Yasmin isn't helping with the spots. How long have you been taking it?

Is your skin oily?

Fwiw I got to my mid 40s still suffering with old acne. Dianette was my miracle worker but a very helpful dermatologist prescribed Spironolactone which works a treat.

I'm now early 50s and I have stopped taking it now and again. After 5/6 weeks the oiliness starts to return and my skin gets a little bumpy, a few pimples. So it's definitely still working when I do take it.

The LRP might do the trick, but don't hesitate to see your GP. If unsympathetic then request a referral to dermatology.

OrangeBuddha · 24/02/2020 23:06

@MrsTumbletap - yes with cotton wool.

Took me couple of months of perseverance before my skin was totally clear. Now I get an odd spot around my periods but it's bearable.

Snog · 25/02/2020 06:45

Try the dermaflannel OP
It's not a tablet or a cream/lotion approach and it's been amazing for me and my friend

MrsTumbletap · 25/02/2020 22:01

@drivingtofrance been taking it for nearly two months now. Do you think I need longer to notice a difference?

No actually now you mention it, the oily 'ness' has gone. My skin was SO oily with the mirena, I could wipe my forehead and feel the grease. But now it's dry.

@Snog this one that's £64?! My gosh that's a lot for a flannel!
