Do I actually need eye cream?

I'm 30. Have a good skincare regime. I would say I'm very skin proud (!) haha.

Cleansing Balm. Toner. Moisturise. Plus exfoliate a few times a week and use masks etc plus sun cream in the day. I don't use any dedicated eye cream... Should I be? What's the advantage? And which do you recommend?

I wish I’d started using eye cream when I didn’t actually need it. Now that I do, I can’t remedy the damage. I use Estée Lauder ANR eye cream but Clinique all about eyes is also good.

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 20/02/2020 22:11

I don't think so. In my 20s and 30s I used one religiously- spendy ones like Chanel and Dior Capture.
Then I stopped.
I'm early 50s now and have forehead lines and marionette lines but no real eye wrinkles.
Not used an eye cream in 15-20 years.

EezyOozy · 20/02/2020 22:12

Following as I don’t use eye cream. I’m 35 and just use a day cream and night cream all over my face 😬

Tempnamelady · 20/02/2020 22:12

Someone said Nip n Fab no needle eye fix was good, I’m using it and it’s ok. Can also share a fabulous tip for moisturiser , Dr Organic Manuka Honey rescue cream from Holland and Barrett. It’s fabulous! I’m not a fan of the smell as I don’t like honey, but I was having terrible issues with dry skin and esp. under my eyes just before Xmas, could have been stress , but this cream has sorted it out. It’s often on the Penny Sale deal.

I've recently started using Kiehl's avocado eye cream- early 30s, good skincare regime, used sunblock for years but based on my mum I think I will be prone to lines- and it has made a real difference already. My eyes are smoother after a week or so and I plan to keep it up.

PickAChew · 20/02/2020 22:49

No.

NotStayingIn · 20/02/2020 22:54

I keep hearing from dermatologist (on YouTube, not really life) that eye cream is really just expensive moisturiser in a tiny pot.

So I don’t know anymore. I rarely use it now but that might be a mistake

JMAngel1 · 21/02/2020 08:00

Muckycat - snap! It's miraculous isn't it.

MikeUniformMike · 21/02/2020 09:48

The things I have tried from the Dr Manuka range have surprised me. The honey rescue cream is a bit smelly but works.
I like the rose otto night eye serum.

Isn't eye cream just a lighter version of face cream? Where am i meant to put it? I just pat it in to the lower, inner and outer area, should I do the brow bone?

One thing I dislike about eye cream and trial sizes is the amount of packaging for the amount of product.

7Worfs · 21/02/2020 09:57

Another one for Kiehl’s avocado eye cream for the day, and the midnight miracle in the evenings.
I’m very sleep deprived with a small baby but at least I don’t look it Smile

thisenglishlife · 21/02/2020 10:54

I can't say I notice any wrinkle difference between the women who have used eye cream religiously, those who have used it occasionally and those who have never/never really used it.

Surely non prescription items could only help with things like a bit of darkness and moisture levels... And dehydration lines, but not wrinkles?

Genetics, sun exposure, smoking, squinting, etc will be causing wrinkles. I don't have any lines or wrinkles yet (younger than the average poster), but I know people in their early twenties and even teenagers with eye lines or wrinkles.

Purplecatshopaholic · 21/02/2020 11:00

I go back and forth on this one! Very fastidious about skin care in general but never have been sure if a different eye cream is really necessary - then I see a ‘miracle’ cream and fall for it again, lol. Currently using one - it’s Bobbi Brown.

cheeseandpineapple · 21/02/2020 11:10

You don’t need it but personally I prefer the feel of certain eye creams around my eyes and concealer stays on better too. If I use my normal moisturiser around my eyes, I don’t feel that area is moisturised in the same way and my concealer doesn’t glide on as well.

Given your age I would shop around and find one that you Iike the feel of, doesn’t have to be spenny and cover your bases!

cheeseandpineapple · 21/02/2020 11:13

Actually would add that when I use specific eye creams for minimising brown age spots, they’ve helped with that and lightening the area. Not so much with wrinkles. I don’t think you can stop them no matter what a cream proclaims.

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 21/02/2020 13:10

See! I'm now obviously going to buy Kiehl's Avocado cream!
To add to my collection. Grin

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 21/02/2020 13:11

Actually, I'm just remembering one I used waaaay back which did brighten under eye dark shadow. It was recommended in the Beauty Bible. No idea what it was called but it was a rose one.

CointreauVersial · 21/02/2020 13:36

It's basically just moisturiser that is designed for the thin skin around your eyes.

I didn't use it (or need it) at your age, but then I started to get really dry patches around my eyes, so it made sense to start using some sort of moisturiser. I was 32 at the time (I know this, because I was pregnant with DS).

Your skin routine will naturally evolve over time as your skin gets older/drier/saggier/whatever.

NotStayingIn · 21/02/2020 13:38

I’m going to need to try the Kiehl’s one too now. And this is how I end up with soooo many products. I’m too easily led astray! Wink

MabelMoo23 · 21/02/2020 13:42

Another vote for Kiehls Avocado cream!

I find on the days I skip it that my under eye concealer looks “cakey”

7Worfs · 21/02/2020 13:46

Get a free sample first, I mean it won’t take 20 years off, but it’s a lovely moisturiser Grin

Staff at Kiehl’s are usually very knowledgeable and helpful too.

I gradually moved to using Kiehl’s for all skincare, partly because products are good, partly because I don’t want to spend time and effort on looking and trying stuff that may or may not work.

thisenglishlife · 21/02/2020 13:57

See! I'm now obviously going to buy Kiehl's Avocado cream! To add to my collection

It's mainly water and shea butter, avocado oil is the eighth ingredient... Seems pricey for £26/£39 eye cream?

MrsCharlesBrandon · 21/02/2020 14:01

I've managed to shift some of my deeper lines round my eyes by using Bio Oil gel before bed.
You only need the tiniest amount. Down side is it can be quite greasy so not suitable for all skins.

7Worfs · 21/02/2020 14:05

I think you also need to avoid sun exposure with Bio Oil, so SPF50 is a must

Chillichutney1 · 21/02/2020 14:07

Retinol and Vaseline makes the most difference. Am early 40s and I noticed crepey skin and the beginning of lines when I turned 40.

I now use Vaseline around my eyes and mouth (smile lines) every night and find it makes my skin lovely and plump again

pearlkent · 21/02/2020 14:32

Chillichutney1 - what sort of retinol have you used around your eyes?
