High quality secondhand watches are a good investment. Has the watch been regularly serviced?

Chickydoo · 20/02/2020 22:31

I have had a Cartier tank & worn it everyday for 16 years. Only serviced twice in that time

TheFlis12345 · 20/02/2020 22:33

Cartier tank all the way, love them!

pontiouspilates · 20/02/2020 22:43

The Cartier is a classic, the Omega is OK. I think the Tag looks a bit naff.

Please let us know when you have decided

None. I’d put in some extra cash and get a Cartier Ballon Bleu from duty free. The Tank is everywhere.

Usernamealreadyexists · 21/02/2020 08:41

The Santos is gorgeous though.

scarfaceace · 21/02/2020 12:31

Have you been to Cambridge or Oxford? You could get one of these... www.oxbridgewatches.com/

LaurieFairyCake · 21/02/2020 12:37

I don't like metal bracelets. They jangle and pull your hair out.

I would buy one with a tan or navy strap so I could wear gold or silver jewellery with it.

I like the idea of a square silver outside but the numbers in gold so you can wear both colours of jewellery too.

troppibambini · 21/02/2020 12:40

Cartier tank. I have one and love it. I actually prefer it to the santos I think.
It doesn't jangle and I've never caught my hair in it.

bohemia14 · 21/02/2020 12:44

The Omega or the Cartier. I'd love either!

LouisaMayAlcott · 21/02/2020 13:04

The Cartier and the Omega are better investments but I would be asking if they have been serviced by the manufacturer before being sold to you. An expensive watch is like an expensive car - it costs a lot if they go wrong! I used to work in the service department of a very upmarket jewellers who sold all of these brands.

DameXanaduBramble · 21/02/2020 13:06

The Cartier. I like the two colour tank but it’s £££££.

datasgingercatspot · 21/02/2020 13:09

No. 1. But I'm biased because I have the exact same watch and I LOVE it! I inherited it and a Rolex from my aunt but for day-to-day I wear the Cartier tank.

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 21/02/2020 13:26

I like the cartier tank of the original ones you posted. It has a gorgeous art deco feel.

However, I wouldn't hesitate to buy second hand from a reputable source - I inherited some money and spent it on a vintage Omega dress watch. It wasn't anywhere near your budget, but still a decent chunk of change, and older than the Cartier Santos you posted - probably getting on for 40 years old.

It is gorgeous, I love it, and have never regretted it. I could never have afforded something of similar quality new.
