I am approaching 40 and am seeing lots of fine lines appear especially around my eyes brows and forehead and have been told my skin is dehydrated. It starting to be the first thing I notice when I look in the mirror! I am upping my water intake but can anyone recommend some really good skincare that can help?! I don't have dry skin but do have dehydrated... I recently learnt there is a difference. I prefer things at the more natural end of the spectrum but open to all suggestions. Would really appreciate any tips!

Hyaluronic acid serum with a thick moisturiser over the top. As the hyaluronic acid absorbs into the skin it absorbs 1000x as much water in with it.

Girlintheframe · 17/02/2020 05:19

Agree Hyaluronic acid then a moisterizer on top.
Also gentle cleansing, nothing too harsh that will strip the skin.

Peridot1 · 17/02/2020 05:37

Layers of hydrating products.

I use a hydrating mist then hylauronic acid then another layer of hydrating mist before a serum and then moisturiser.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/02/2020 08:42

Sukin rosehip oil. Vegan and natural.

foxinthegarden1 · 17/02/2020 13:39

Thank you all for your replies! Which makes are you all using? The layering up sounds like a good idea & the Hyaluronic mist. Theres so many to choose from any tried and tested that really made a difference? I used the Ordinary Hyaluronic acid. I couldn't see a difference however it could have been doing more than I reapplied...

Jordan Samuel Skincare is good for dehydrated skin, I particularly like he serum and the mist.

Neutrogena has a very nice and deeply hydrating cream (forgot the name of it). Inexpensive and it works, I tried a sample.

Clinique Moisture Surge cream is good too!

I love Clinique moisture surge!

Have done lots of research today and also managed to speak to a aesthetician! Here's some product suggestions they came up with for any one else in the same boat as me...

Hale & Hush Quiet Wash
Le Mieux Essence Moisturizer
Le Mieux Hyaluronic Serum
Sorella Apothecary Quench & Protect Hydrating SPF 30

I have the MOST dehydrated skin around my eyes, not normal wrinkles but dry and crepey. I've had it since my 20s, I use a, creamy cleanser or biodern micellar water, then a rich eye cream. Sometimes I use bepanthanan nappy rash cream and that works the best out of everything as it has b vitamins (or something) that restores the skins barrier. Honest it works like a dream but very shiny after.

DD used to have acne and was prescribed roaccutane, which worked but made her skin very dry. She did a lot of research and concluded that the Korean method of layers of thin hydrators worked best, and I benefitted from her knowledge.

This is what works for me:

  • Oil cleanse using almond oil plus about 1 part in 10 polysorbate (from eBay, helps the oil to emulsify) plus an essential oil for scent, mixed in a pump bottle
  • Wash with warm water and a cloth
  • Second cleanse with one pump of Bioderma Atoderm Intensive Gel Moussant, from Amazon
  • Rinse well, pat dry
  • A couple of pumps of Kikumasamune High Moist Toner Skin Care Lotion, from eBay, allow to dry
  • A pump of Artichoke Layering Intense Skin lotion (eBay, decanted into a pump bottle)
  • A layer of Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Cream, sometimes from Amazon and sometimes from a supermarket, depending on who has an offer.

The Neutrogena is a knock-off of the Clinique moisturiser that Honeybee85 mentions. They're part of the same company. Make sure you get the cream not the water gel. Aldi do a similar one sometimes but honestly the price difference isn't much.

My skin used to feel quite tight and uncomfortable, even with moisturiser, but now it feels great and I'm told I look much younger than I am (good genes and a subcutaneous layer of fat also play a part there!).

Thanks for this ^ I am looking them all up now! I must admit the last few days Ive become a bit obsessed with reviews on products etc... I watched youtube videos, took notes then further down watched the video where the facialist with all her knowledge admitted her use of regular botox. Was slightly relieve that her skin was too good to be true!

The product that came up over and over again though was Ready Steady Glow Daily AHA Tonic so going to give that one a whirl.

Don’t introduce every new product at the same time in case you react to anything. Give each new product a week of use before introducing the next.

And I wouldn’t use the AHA tonic every day straight away. Maybe try twice a week at first.

I went a bit mad with Pixi Glow Tonic and my skin really didn’t like it. I can’t really use glycolic acids I have discovered.

Have a look at Caroline Hirons website. She has lots of advise.

Oh and the most important skin care item is SPF.

ParadiseLaundry · 20/02/2020 05:27

Just a word of warning about the Neutrogena products, they are quite heavily perfumed, which may aggravate your skin unnecessarily. Personally I would avoid. CeraVe have some nice face washes with hyaluronic acid but without any perfume. Cheap too.

thickwoollytights · 20/02/2020 05:38

Cerave is excellent. And be careful with any new acids - you might be fine, I'm not Confused

fishonabicycle · 20/02/2020 07:16

Cerave is great - and cheap.

ThatLibraryMiss · 20/02/2020 07:58

ParadiseLaundry, the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel-Cream is unperfumed.

ParadiseLaundry · 20/02/2020 09:37

ThatLibraryMiss ah sorry, it must just be the face washes that are perfumed.

CrowleysBentley · 20/02/2020 10:31

Sukin do a nice hydrating toner spray, that's natural and only costs about £8. Also the La Roche Posay toleraine ultra 8 hydrating spray is really nice, it's soothing and hypoallergenic.

For hyaluronic acid I love the hada labo ones. You get a big 150ml (I think), bottle for around £10 on amazon, and you can also buy refills. I like the light version, because my skin tends to oiliness and is prone to closed comedones, the premium version is very popular. Apply to damp skin, always.

I would not think about adding an aha of any kind to your routine until you have fixed any dehydration issues, or you are likely to irritate your skin and cause yourself more problems.
