M&S tights - gone to pot

Has anyone else noticed how bad M&S opaque tights have got around the toe seam ?
Every pair I've bought this season- approximately 7 in total- a hole develops in the toe area of either foot.
They used not be like that.
It hasn't happened with other brands of opaques. So it's not my toe nails.
I believe that opaques aren't good for the tight business as they last so much longer than sheers.
Having weakness in toe seams means they have to be replaced more often Sad

I won't be rebuying from M&S.
Sorry rant over.

I wear footsies inside my opaque tights for this reason. They don't go into holes as quickly and help keep my feet warm.

NC4Now · 16/02/2020 17:23

Yes!! One pair I bought were completely toeless, with my whole foot hanging out, by the end of the first wear.
I’ve started buying tights from H&M now

travailtotravel · 16/02/2020 17:25

I only buy tights from Snag now. Honestly, I can rave about them but the quality is fantastic!

Well Well
I get the Mumsnet Swears By email - w"What Mumsnetters Have Been Recommending This Week.
Top of the list this evening was M&S tights !!!

Not for me they're not.

I had to bin another pair tonight.
Sad

Yes every single pair I've got since December!
I thought it was just me even though I've been obsessively cutting my toenails to try and stop it...

Fatted · 17/02/2020 18:33

@travailtotravel how are snag tights? I'm tempted to try after looking like Nora Batty in my Asda tights. Do they work for short people as well?

travailtotravel · 17/02/2020 20:55

@Fatted have a look at the website. They go tall and short, wide and narrow. I'm medium height and wide. I've had some pairs for more than a year now with no issues.

Shenanagins · 17/02/2020 21:10

I recently bought a new pack and they are terrible. I always liked M & S ones as they did ones for short legs but even these now seem to wrinkle at the ankles.

beanaseireann · 17/02/2020 21:15

It's the seam at the toes that I'm having problems with.
I couldn't believe the 'Mumsnet Swears By' that came in on my phone last night.

It's actually made me question 'Mumsnet Swears By'.Sad

Also I’ve found mine are shrinking in the wash, never happened before.

Lucked · 17/02/2020 21:29

No mine are good but I only buy autograph velvet (usually 60d). They are £8 a pop. Got a new pair on today and quality seems the same as ever

copperoliver · 17/02/2020 21:52

Snag tights are now the best. X

beanaseireann · 18/02/2020 11:50

I will return to my trusty Dunnes Stores €8 tights.
I've, so far, no issues with them.

I get that this is annoying and definitely shouldn't happen. But surely you don't need to bin? 30 seconds with a needle and thread and they'll be good to go.

StarlightLady · 18/02/2020 19:41

In the warmer weather l switch to stockings (cooler) and wear them to work regularly; John Lewis own brand; they wear well, with no “escaped toes”. And it’s a myth that stockings are uncomfortable. With a good quality sussy belt (such as Fantasie) you hardly know you have them on.

In cooler weather, the tights come out and I wear M&S Autograph Seamfree Opaques. No centre seam, the top is like a tube with a practical sized cotton gusset and robust toes. The quality is far superior to others in M&S.

Heist are good and seamfree too but more expensive.

As for a needle and thread job, stitched toes in stockings or tights are not comfy. Or my seeing is too poor. It’s certainly one or the other.

Oly4 · 18/02/2020 20:31

No, I love M&S tights

drina27 · 18/02/2020 20:46

Agree. The country of origin is now different. I hate the stupid duck foot and the annoying seam. They are not tapered properly.

After one wear
Darn and repair. Shock

I have actually darned some. But it is annoying.
Interesting to hear they are now made in a different place.
It's the Bodysensor ones.

I wear very few tights but a lot of knee-highs. Usually buy from M and S and I have noticed the same problem with toe holes - often with a single wearing. My most recent purchase also had toe seams like steel wires - they were returned. Also they have dispensed with the comfortable top cuff on the 15 denier.

I'm currently looking for another source of knee highs - socks are just too hot.

thedevilinablackdress · 19/02/2020 00:34

I agree you deffo shouldn't have to repair after one wear but better than chucking out - for the wallet and the environment.
